Would love to hear those MBL. A dealer here sells them but I don’t have that kind of cash. It’s why I started looking at Ohms.
In 2020 I bought a pair of wT2000s and a PS Audio Stellar Strata for a small room system. The Ohm speakers provide a wonderful sound stage and large sweet spot. On some recordings you almost feel like you can walk around the stage (without the assistance of DSPs).
Three years later PS Audio had a sale on the Aspen FR20s and I decided to try a pair. I figured it might be nice to be able to change my system around occasionally with different style speakers. But once I hooked up the FR20s I never put the wT2000s back in. I realize it’s not a totally fair comparison since the FR20s cost considerably more.
Ohm seems to have spent most of their resources diversifying their product lines over the last few years instead of incorporating new/upgraded things into their Walsh Tall series, and their build quality I would rate mid-level.
One thing, I do occasionally see Ohm speakers on TV shows and movies.
@minnesotafats was looking at Ohms. Then he bought 101Es. I helped assemble a pair of Extreme 2s. I ordered a pair. I told Matt that if he listened to a pair he’d buy them, He did listen to them. He ordered a pair as well. When mine became available a year early, I said pass. Matt didn’t.
Each of us approves of this result.
More than any speaker that comes to mind, the Extreme 2s require the most dedication of space. If I could afford them, I would have to buy a bigger house to fit them.
I came very close to buying some Ohms years ago. I can’t remember what got in the way of the purchase. I would love to hear some today.
German Physiks also makes very nice sounding Omni-directional speakers at a price in between the Ohms and the MBL’s. Definetly quite a few steps up from the Ohms.
Thanks for the tip. I’ll check those out.
I am curious also.
Strangely the MBL reps said the 101 extremes do better in a smaller room then the 101e mk2. ![]()
Make it happen Ron. Lol
Maybe if I had worked a little harder…
Those German Physiks are just as expensive as the MBL’s. Holy cow I’m not in this league.
Just ordered a pair of MicroWalsch Talls to replace my FR5’s on stands. Size and space considerations. I’ll report once they arrive.
Hopefully they won’t be too big for your room!
Excellent let me know. I just emailed Evan with my room dimensions for a recommendation on either the Tall 1000 or 2000. I can’t get my eyes off those MBL 126.
