I didn’t pay any attention to the lists. Didn’t even look.
My future Axpona plan is no plan.
I had some rooms I had on a list. I missed a couple there’s always next year.
There’s nothing in my system that isn’t doing it’s job really well. I go to these shows because I love the hobby and it’s environment. What I missed seeing, hearing, I’ll catch next time.
The best of show is I have new friends who I really like, Rick, Al, Paul, Pete, Matt, Tony.
Well said, Ron! I too have very little to worry over in my system, so these shows are much the same for me. I’m sorry Ted wasn’t able to make it. It’s been many a year since I’ve seen him. He’s a great fellow to meet in person.
BTW—Sunday night, I had dinner with a very nice guy named Andy, who is the VP of Synergistic Research. He seemed to believe in the efficacy of every gizmo they sell, including HFT’s and the stick with a metal ball on it, the name I can’t remember.
And he told me that:
- They put a millyun volts thru each fuse to line up the little things in the metal
- The labeling of the fuses is not directionally controlled.
- The direction of the fuse does effect the sound for a few hours but after that they are no longer directional.
- The Master fuse is meant to be used in Source components and not in power conditioners. That he couldn’t explain in any engineering terms.
- Ted treats his employees very well.
Wow. Interesting info, Ron! But most importantly - where did you go for dinner? ![]()
I’ve used a lot of SR stuff. I like Ted, too. He can come across sometimes as a carnival barker (I mean this with love!
), but boy does he believe in his stuff. Over time, at least in my experience, I’ve come to learn that the dots and the doo-dads work best in systems that need a bit of “taming” - systems that have a bit of edginess or hardness respond very well to those tweaks. With systems that are otherwise well balanced, less is more with that stuff. My 2 cents.
Interesting that it follows their published direction on Master. I have found the fuse in source component has more affect than the regenerator fuse of same type. But the only way to affect equipment with circuit breakers with fuses is to place audiophile fuse in regenerator.
I’d be curious to know then what fuse (if any of theirs) they would recommend going into a power conditioner.
It just occurred to me - a power conditioner the likes of what they and others provide is not the same as an active power regenerator. So maybe the context of that recommendation needs to be looked at a bit more closely. ![]()
Purple into conditioner, per Andy.
That sounds like a plan ![]()
Hmm, I wonder if that’s universal to include regens?
I doubt it. Frankly, there were periods where I couldn’t keep both eyeballs going in the same direction.
Like when he discussed their “voicing” fuses.
That’s going at lengths for customer satisfaction and also helps explain their pricing!
Did he mention ‘snake oil’ BTW? ![]()
Still, I wonder why they don’t recommend the Master for conditioners?
Hey RonP…
Was just looking at this from the SR Master fuse descriptor last
sentence of paragraph.
" So you start with a single Master Fuse on your DAC or line conditioner and realize guaranteed results or your money back for the first 30 days. You can then experiment sparingly with additional Master Fuses if you wish to go further. The choice is yours."

So I wonder why Andy would say that…
My SR Master in my P15 power plant has brought about an
amazing sq upgrade to my entire system…
Perhaps it is the old ymmv.
Best wishes
I was able to hear the demo with the SR master in a Dac and the identical Dac with the stock fuse. There was a big difference but I wish the stock Dac would have had the purple fuse in it to compare to the master fuse.
Glad you got to hear the two dacs and heard the difference…
Would have nice to hear same dacs with the purple and orange fuses
get a feel of the incremental differences…
Best wishes
Each Directstream dac sounds different to other Directstream dacs.
Have to wonder about Andy’s job status now that there’s a public forum of him contradicting the owner, designer, and SR websites info…
