I’m interested as to the size of room that people have heard 802Ds in to consider them too trebly. A neighbour of mine with a small room of about 15’ by 14’ has horrifically powerful bass.
An almost square room would have those characteristics from bass nodes alone and would measure horribly.
On the topic of best speakers for you, my experience is that first impressions really count. If the 802s seem very detailed in the upper end, think about if that will be fatiguing in a long listening session (at both high and low volume). Also look for what is best for the type of music you listen to most.
I got rid of my B&Ws for those reasons after listening to many speaker brands, listening to mostly classical chamber/orchestra and vocal jazz. The new KEF Blade METAs image extremely well and wide (3D) beyond the speakers, lots of fast bass, and are very engaging musically. It is difficult to end a listening session they are so good! They were expensive but are likely end-game for me. Loving the KEF sound paired with Classe amps.
Good luck in your audio journey.
Welcome!
Does anyone think that the 1st generation of 802D’s were actually the best of the diamond series?
anyone?
Apparently not.
Or just get a pair of the FR20’s
No I don’t, the D2 easily bested the D1 series in all aspects in my opinion.
