I’ll try and post a few pictures and leave descriptions when I can. Arnie and Bascom did the majority of rolling and so I will have to dig a little for you. They did try it on the amp and find the tubes in it now still better.
Paul McGowan said Thanks for watching. It was an honor to be able to travel to Santa Barbara and spend the day with Bascom. He's just so damn knowledgable and I think a treasure within our industry. We’ve just auditioned the first draft of his new preamp. Holy crap! We did find that the 6229 Gold Lion tubes we use in the front end of the BHK amplifier aren’t going to cut it in the preamp, which is strange - because we thought they would - assumed they would - but that’s the beauty of listening, eh? Now Arnie and Bascom are on a hunt for new tubes that are not NOS. But, with what’s in there now, holy s**t, this is going to be a monster. Never heard anything like it, not even my tricked out Calypso.
Hmm, time for the 6H30? The transconductance on the 6H30 is ~ 17,000 to 18,000 vs. 12000 or so on the 6229 (6H23)
Just a thought.

You can tell in Paul’s writing of BHK, and by his interview with BHK that Paul has a deep respect and professional reverence for BHK…It dawned on me, whether Paul fully realizes that everyone on this forum, and many, many others within the industry, feel the same about Paul…guys a frick’n legend!
Garsh, thanks. My role has changed over the years, from designing just about everything to that of a guiding hand and it’s important that folks recognize the difference. While I put my heart and soul into PS Audio, I do not invest those two commodities in every new product. That task now goes to Ted and Bascom and Bob and Dennis and whomever else comes along we choose to invest in. So when you listen to a BHK or a DirectStream, you are connecting with the soul of that designer, not mine, and while I appreciate the kind words, they are not earned or deserved when it comes to these very special products.
You mention Bascom, a man I have known for many decades and admired even longer. Think of all the years of experience distilled into a single product - and that is what you get when purchasing a BHK anything. I am honored to work alongside such legends.
Well, there is a very deep reverence for you my friend, by many, many people…and that’s just for your legendary status in the ‘audio’ industry. I suspect you’ll make it into the marketing hall of fame too!
I think you have to be dead to get in. I’ll pass.
