BHK Preamp tube rolling

Thanks ken. That is kinda what I’m after with maybe some bottom end punch. I was Planning on ordering some tonight from Brent Jessee, Hoping To get them up to Toronto without issue, given the current pandemics.

Another interest is the Amperex 6922 PQ USA, square getter.

Any reason you seem determined to use 6 volt tubes when they have far greater noise issues than the 12 volt tubes like your current ones? Also the more rare tube you look at the harder it is going to be to find ones with gain matched triodes which is a must to prevent the clicking and will make them even more expensive than normal.

I’m in the Toronto GTA and I get shipments daily to my home. The only problem I’m encountering are Some parts from Germany. What used to be 10 days is stretching into a month unfortunately. I need the parts for another side business. As for tubes my main music of choice are female jazz vocals. The Telefunken 6922/6DJ8’s are wonderful. I also like some Phillips Miniwatt 7308’s in my BHK Pre.

That is a valid, true and good point. I do in fact enjoy the 12au7s, particularly the Cifte and also popped in GL along with Telefunken 12au7s. That said, I prefer the 6V family of tubes with the jumper set. In my system it just sounds bigger or more of a presence. Truth is, with this preamp, ya can’t really go wrong. I’ve just heard people mention the tele 6922s- So felt I should scratch the itch .

Thanks for that. Under normal circumstances, I’m sure there wouldn’t be any issue. I’ll most likely give it a whirl and see what happens.

I found new JAN Phillips 5814 (12AU7) tubes from a source locally for the equivalent of $15 each US for 4. I’m listening right now and the tubes are quieter. The treble is more recessed compared to the Telefunken E88CC’s. Warmer in the low and mid’s. Some details or sharpness are missing but hey, at this price I can easily live with them.

It’s like Christmas, these just arrived as a backup for my BHK 300’s.

very nice… About to grab the Tele’s now. I have a chance to get Siemens, cca’s too, but they are quite costly at $475

Siemens CCa’s are great tubes. Just make sure that the seller is reputable and they’re are NOS. There’s boatloads of worn out ones and fakes about.

That’s kind of cheap for Ccas.

it’s a guy out in MI with good feedback on US Audiomart. How to tell real cca Siemens? Don’t they have the symbol engraved at the bottom, much like the diamond in a telefunken?

Decided to try the 6SN7s with adapters- it is a snug fit but so far I am loving the sound! Using the Psvane CV181tii tubes. Thanks for the tip on those. Set at 4mA per BHK recommendation. They’re hanging out the top of the pre like some custom headers

that may be my next roll. How would you compare the sound?

I ran those same tubes in my BHK for about 3 months, then put them back in my tube power mono blocks.

Need to run them in for a while, but they are very detailed with accurate bass right now. I’m sure results will be system dependent- but not a bad experiment for $200 or so.

what, and where did you get the adaptors? it
s a 9 pin and a 6SN7 adaptor?

9 pin extender from Tubemonger. 6sn7 to 6922 adapter from TubeDepot. Seem to be good quality

You have to use both otherwise it is too tight on the vertical boards behind the tubes
