This thread has already addressed a good number of topics.
Yeah maybe not in this thread, but many here have been referring to the post I made reference to, that was in another thread.
You mean the other thread where many have addressed the precise issue you raise here?
Just read through the whole thread, the only person who I saw who raised the same issues was the onehorsepony, who started the thread.
Interesting.
A number of posters acknowledge him and address his comments head-on, Paul also chimes in, but all perhaps not as you would prefer.
Unfortunately, we do not get to choose how others may decide to respond. Annoyingly.
If you feel something needs to be said, perhaps the better place is in the correct thread.
Moving on . . .
Letâs face it Stereophile gives everything a glowing review
Exactly !!!
To clarify, this is why Iâm disappointed⌠I saved and decided to buy a really nice stereo when I retire⌠I wasnât happy with mine, and Paul explained the issues I had with the choice of components I chose. After watching countless PSaudio YouTube videos and interviews, I felt that Paul, Arnie, and Bascom were so invested in the BHK preamp and 300 monoblocks, that I couldnât go wrong. Basically, they did all the legwork, so Iâll benefit from their expertise and efforts.
Videos stated that the SG Gold was very good, but not as good as the BHK series.
My 30 day in home tryout proved that the BHK components were better than what I ownedâŚSOLD !!!
Now Iâm hearing that PSaudio prefers the sound of the SG preamp better than the BHK preamp.
I mean really ???.. I could understand if a new product was better than the BHK preamp, after all, that is R&D. But that a cheaper product is better really makes me feel, well I donât need to spell it out.
Overall, itâs just upsetting.
Still driving a Model T, eh?
If you like how your system sounds, you made a good decision.
I too have a BHK preamp. I also have 2 discontinued Conrad Johnson preamps and a discontinued Conrad Johnson power amp. I also have a 34 year old Infinity speaker system that was discontinued a long, long time ago. The factory where the Infinity Emit k tweeters were made was destroyed in a fire years ago, so I can never get new replacement tweeters for those speakers. None of this upsets me.
This upsets me.
âPS Audioâ does not believe the SG preamp sounds better than the BHK pre and thatâs why we have the BHK pre in the listening room still as our reference.
Chris Brunhaver (and I) believe the SG pre has some qualities that better the BHK, but those aside, overall, we continue listening to the BHK pre as our reference.
Further, now that the BHK pre has been discontinued after nearly a decade of service, it will eventually be replaced with something better as a reference. Thatâs progress and that, I assure you, will never stop at PS Audio.
My particular quibble is that itâs hard to see that something bought at full price is suddenly worth thousands less overnight because of the price cuts for discontinued products. I donât know if other high end audio companies do the same, but maybe holding the price up would increase the value of our PSA gear on the used market and increase customerâs satisfaction with their purchase.
Amen.
Keep up the great work, Paul.
I imagine keeping the performance to price ratio in a reasonable price range is one of your biggest challenges.
I hope you can continue to be successful in that regard.
Cheers.
I understand your perspective but I canât really relate to it.
Buying the best Hi-Fi I can afford to meet my needs and foster enjoyment is the goal I have set for myself.
The idea that my decision to purchase something should be impacted by how much the kit might fetch if I decide to sell it has never occurred to me and really does not make much sense â to me.
To each his own.
Regards.
I understand the feeling that âovernightâ value on the market may of declined but this is a normal part of business. I can also attest to the fact it is prevalent in almost all industries especially stereo, cars, watches and cameras. Ask me how I know lol.
My point is âknow thyselfâ. I have had 3 sets of speakers, 3 amps, a dac and two preamps in two years. Im opposite of scotte1. Dont buy the latest and greatest anything if your like me and future values have impact. Trust me, the DM10, MU2, BHK or whatever will make it to TMR or Audio Mart eventually. And it will be discountedâŚa lot.
And what I enjoy is the latest and greatest for anyone and their system may be that old Jr or Conrad Johnson.
Buy what ya can afford and enjoy the heck out of it.
Lets see what PSA has up thier sleeve for 2025. I hope its a hit. In the meantime, now I want to hear a Gold and BHK pre lolâŚm
How so
FYI, about 75% of my kit was âformerly lovedâ by someone else and I rarely perform the role of âearly adopterâ. The only exception currently in my system is the PS Audio AirLens. I bought that almost immediately when it became available.
Regards.
There seems to be two paths that audio manufactures take in regards to selling their products.
Path 1 in tales going through the normal established channels. Advertising, sending products off to reviewers, and offering huge discounts at times to help boost sales.
Path 2 none to very little advertising or reviews, and no huge discounts.
In this case sales are based solely on repetition and word of mouth. These products seem to hold their resale value much better.
Exactly.
Your right. We are similar. I read your post as âI buy new and keep itâ. And speaking of similarities, i bought my streamer HiFi Rose new. Still have it.
Im actually settling in to some degree of permanency. Rose - good. Speakers - good. Dac -good. Amp - great. Pre - TBD
