BHK Preamplifier Close Out?

Say it isn’t so!

I think the point has ben made 100 times over; Some customers have strong feelings about the timing of their purchase and resale value and want to express that repeatedly, perhaps in hopes of getting others to join in the complaining??? Time to put this to bed?

In this the season of politicking and claims/counter-claims and statement clarifications/re-clarifications, that was well played!

Very well so in imho. I would love to know what qualities excel in each. I think there are thoughts in this regard buried in a few threads. Ill go hunting as it makes sense one or the other might excell in ss vs tube, detail vs imaging etc

As far as Stereophile (or any other subjective review magazine or website) not doing negative reviews, I have always believed this explanation: A thorough review takes an incredible amount of listening, writing and editing time, and why would anyone (besides perhaps Amir and his cronies at ASR) spend that time on products that are bad or even just meh?

I have a close friend who for a time ran a well-regarded rum tasting website who told me exactly that. There was do much good stuff out there, why waste valuable time on lesser products?

As I understand it, professional reviewers generally seek out items that interest them, either from hearing them at a show or perhaps from a product announcement from a well-known and exceptional designer / manufacturer.

My point being: no reviews = something you might want to take a pass on unless you have heard them for yourself…

I love my entire PS Audio line up, from P20, SACD, Directstream Mk2 DAC, BHK Pre to BHK300s.
A huge bump in SQ is gained by upgrading the fuses in the BHK300s (including rail fuses), also incorporating the Swiss Digital Fuse Boxes with graphene sluggos to the P20 and BHK300s. I mean stunning! This is in addition to tube rolling. I should do this to all the gear.

There’s lots of life and enjoyment to be had with this gear, and tweaking them for “component level” upgrades with relatively modest investment is so worthwhile. Fidelium SCs (and now XLRs) make them shine even more.

My BHK Pre is autographed by the late Bascom King, so kinda sentimental. I’m enjoying my system more than ever.

Thanks, Scott. Indeed, it is a challenge especially when you’re up against something as great as the BHK preamp. People don’t love the BHK for nothing. As I said, it still sits as my all time reference, though as the prototype of the new one floats in and out I am stunned at the difference. Heck, it’s only taken half a decade to figure out how to do better.

John Atkinson said as much when addressing the issue in print some years ago.

I am not as cynical as some; so I believed him.

I want to believe that and there is a lot of very good stuff out there. But im also pretty sure if you actually dinged a few products, you would find yourself with not much to do.

That being said, the right review can help a lot determining if a product is right for you. Steve G, Stereophile and just good ol forums can tell ya a lot.

I just noticed, there even reviews of reviewers…!

Hearing something yourself is always preferable to rolling the dice, unless there’s an audition period.
No professional reviews don’t necessarily scare me off. Some really good products and the manufactures that produce them are not interested in having their products reviewed by the mainstream press. They rely on word of mouth and their long standing reputation.

What reviewers, websites, Blogs, etc. do not? We fall into that trap here as well, gushing over our latest acquisition(s).

Thoroughly? How often have you listened to this combo since you got the MU2?

They are in my 2nd system

How often do you listen to it over the CJ?

Of course I listen MUCH more with the newer gear over the older gear.
