Hey Elk…while as a kid hear music boxes…never anything like this
one…with range it has…

The craftsmanship is something else…

I have seen a good many like this, as well as those with changeable rolls. I have always found them fascinating.

Consider that the “records” are all made by hand - amazing care and calculations.

Indeed these is so much delicate precision work throughout…
How could they do this with the instruments of the day…mindboggling

The artwork in particular.

The timing considerations, I don’t have a very good sense of timing, so it was one of my first thoughts.

Does the craftsman have to consider the rate of spin of the disc?

Ask the craftsman…

For sure the craftsman had to consider the rate spin
design this so that the player would perform properly…

Within certain parameters of overall speed, the disk need only spin at a constant rate. The waltz would sound fine a bit slower and a bit faster. Orchestras pick different tempos as well.
