I was happy with Class D in my system, until I heard some really good Class A amps. The weakness of my system with Class D amplification became immediately obvious, and I ended up purchasing an amp that runs in Class A.
This is where I’m going to end up as well. I’ve already as good as “given away” my BHK 300’s for R80K [$5K] the pair. And my HiFi Rose RS150B, DS MkII, PST and BHK Pre are boxed, waiting for the courier - to be sold on my behalf by a 3rd party.
I’m getting out of the game, and hoping the Aurender AP20 which is on its way will change the way I listen to music for the better.
I believe the Aurender AP20 to be a very nice component and that it will sound great. I wanted wireless streaming, HDMI eARC and expansion ports. I also loved the Canadian integrated from Moon but ultimately went with the NAD M-33.

but “the world of simplified components. Life and age” is exactly where I find myself as well.
I’ve only ever seen 1 meh review of a Purifi Eigentakt based amp. My system hasn’t gone that direction but I’d love to plug in a NAD M23. I especially like the Bluesound eco system.
You will be very happy with the results. For the first time ever, my wife turns on the system with Tidal and I have music in the house first thing in the morning.
There is a newer variant of the M-33 that I love. There are lots of reviews on the M-33. I “had to have” wireless streaming and multiple eARC and HDMI inputs. BluOS and Dirac are great to have!

My “case” was a culmination of factors: When I realized my PST Transport sounded (to my ears) just as good with .flac, .wav (etc) cut onto -R DVD’s, I already started getting rid of my CD collection (which wasn’t that huge anyways). But it did not work out in practice, in the end. It took me a while to realize that - with a decent streamer, the “extra step” of cutting a file to -R DVD does not make any sense.
I was just about ready to change almost my whole system to new separates when I realized that my main problem is not the equipment, but the way in which I listen. Your post resonates with me, Bob, because - like you, there was a time that I enjoyed my separates; and the “tinkering” that goes with it … this or that cable (etc). But one gets older, the ears decline … there comes a point when new separates has become (to me anyways) chasing a forever elusive dream. I also like your mentioning of your wife who “now turns on the system with Tidal”

To me, the AIO approach has become a “lifestyle reboot”. Though of course, I can’t quite get rid of that audiophile itch so I’m also getting a little bit of snake oil - the Aurender NH10 network hub … 
Sounds like you should keep the BHK250. I’ve never actually heard the M1200 but I do run a pair of BHK Sig 300 monos, which is basically a pair of BHK250s and I don’t really notice heat from them. I know they a big and have big heat sinks, but it’s not like they get super hot. At least in my system they have not yet. It’s also not like you don’t have AC in Florida. I’d certainly adjust my AC and close the window coverings before I downgraded my amps. You could also move out of Florida. That’s actually what I would do first. The problem is not the amp, it’s Florida in the summer.
Wow, move out of Florida so your audio system wouldn’t get too hot! LOL! You’ve got something going on against the Sunshine State and/or, you love your audio system too much. Where would you suggest someone move? It’s my belief that it gets just as hot in NYC and Chicago as it does in Florida. But then of course in those northern states during the winter, it takes longer for those amps to warm up and sound their best… Modern climate control can hopefully make almost any home “just right” without the need to move residence. I’m a native Floridian who loves home and great audio. I’m happy with both. To each their own.
Hello, I had also been contemplating adding class D to my collections of amps. Read a lot of reviews and came across a brand you don’t hear much about. Nuprime Evolution Sta SE mono blocks. These are 300w at 8 and doubles to 400 at 4. Needless to say they have a very robust power and stout power supply. I purchases a OCTIVE 300 SE pre. I love the sound of my big Pass 250, but the Nuprime just blew me away. Huge holographic soundstage with warmth and detail. Bass starts and stops on a dime. I’m using this setup with my FR5’s and they really scale up. For bookshelf speakers they are very good speakers.
If I ever go back to class D NuPrime will be on the short list. I can’t afford it, but my first class D crush was the Evo STA which is the stereo version of the Evo Two. Both were recently updated to SE.
Nuprime classifies these mono’s as class AD. That is just how they sound. Very smooth and warm. Took a minute to break in, but wow.

For a lower cost Nuprime option the AMG STA SE would be a good candidate to look into. I owned an ST-10 for about five years that I rotated in and out of a system. Having owned NCore and and ICE before it the ST-10 was easily the best of the bunch. I was going to buy an AMG STA SE last Summer just to try but got a deal on the new Starkrimson 25 monos so bought them instead. Turns out to have been a great decision. Much like the Atma-Sphere amps the Nuprime’s linear power supplies and proprietary amp modules make them different from most of the Class D amps at real world prices.
Going their own way is in part what drew me to NuPrime. I didn’t know the same was true of Atma-Sphere.
I actually had a AMG STA that I ended up selling after settling on a Aegir 1 that Schiit discounted when introducing the Aegir 2. I liked it well enough but had a bit of trouble with it and I’m not one to rotate stuff in and out. I tried for a while but found I’m more a set it and forget it type.
The Aegir is great with 90dB / 4 Ohm Spatial Audio M4s but I’ll look again if changing it up. I’ll just add Atma-Sphere to the short list.
I used the ST-10 with the M3 Triode Master’s for several years.
I also was considering the Atma-Sphere amps. Since I have a small 3 tier rack it came down to space and configuration. The Agd were also on my radar. I don’t think any of those two would be bad choices.
Class AD. Interesting. I hadn’t picked up on that but it makes sense in how the house sound is generally described as +/- warmth / 2nd order harmonics.
A decision has been made. I sent back the M1200s and am now using The Starkrimson Mono Ultra amps. I heard the Orchards at FLAX, met Leo and our own Joe. Even with show conditions and different room/components, I heard enough to know this was not like any other Class D I have ever heard. I don’t know how they stack up against Atma-Sphere or AGD, but to me in my room these are keepers. Plus I really appreciated the no bling approach of Orchard Audio.
Just a little less sweetness and just a bit more forward than the BHK250, but very minor nuances. On really well recorded music and most all ambient, the Orchards do outperform the BHK. The convenience factors are A++. Before I would turn the system off after listening sessions, now I leave everything on 24/7. With the PMG stack and Orchard monoblocks, the P15 has not reached 90 watts on the display. Cool! It defies logic how these svelte black boxes produce this amazing sound with no heat.
Thanks again to all who posted here. I very much appreciate your collective experiences. And for those who said living in Florida was the issue, I would give up the entire kit for a Bose Wave Radio and stay here before I moved back to The People’s Republic of Maryland.
