I used a Galion P75 with my OA Starkrimson Ultra and the sound stage was glorious. The BHK couldn’t match it. That said, my BHK w/ Apos Ray Select 12AU7s is very enjoyable.
Yes the Apos tubes in the BHK pre take the performance up a few notches.

I was ready to sell my BHK preamp after 6 months with the stock tubes. I heard good things about the Ray Select Tubes and decided to give them a go before parting ways with the unit. 1.5 years later the BHK Pre is still the heart of my system.
I often wonder if those who don’t care for the BHK ever roll tubes. The Psvane Art tubes that came with mine are functional but not great.
I tried close to two dozen pairs new production and NOS so I gave mine more than a fair chance.
For my bhk pre, Brimars are my go to tubes for critical immersive listening sessions. They excel on vocals and mids and are very much on the warmer side (which is my preference).
Siemens I use for clinical listening sessions.
Amperex I use for super smooth no fatigue listening.
I also have some gold lions and ps vanes that I don’t use regularly. They’re mostly backup tubes for my m1200s.
I also have a so so pair of RFT tubes I mainly use for TV watching so I don’t put too many hours on the other tubes.
