Devialet vs Directstream DAC

Directstream was ahead in the first place, so it would be further ahead.

Originally it was very close. I spent a lot of time and eventually decided that I wanted the sound quality offered by the Directstream.

Devialet are moving to new amplifiers, both the Class A portion and the Class D portion, in addition to a revised more accurate ADC. Sound quality is rumoured to be much higher. If they have also chosen an FPGA architecture (e.g. Chord; PS Audio), it might be very interesting indeed.

@eldrick Have you ever done close, detailed comparison between the two ?

Devialet Expert Pro 1000 announced.

Supposedly sound quality is improved.

Supposedly to market in mid-July.

I had a PWD Mk2 DAC and still own a P3.

I listened to the Le 250 and 1000 Pro, then bought the Le 250 and upgraded it to a 250 Pro. The Pro is a significantly more detailed sound than the previous Le 250 version.

The P3 power plant has also become redundant, it makes no noticeable difference, thanks to the revamped Pro power supply.

Besides the sound and convenience, it’s a very good deal. I paid £9,000 from a main dealer for the 250 Pro, a Direct Stream and P3 alone are £7,800 and you still need amplifiers, a pre-amp, phono amp, streamer and cables.

I enjoyed by PWD Mk2 DAC for about 3 years, but this system sound-wise is in another league.
