I am on the lookout for a new Dac, and quite fancy the move from my SGCD to the Gold Dac. Can I alter the volume? or just move to another make
The marketing description indicates that it does have a volume control.
Yes, as Ron notes it has a “built-in lossless volume control” which will allow it to act as a preamp although it does not appear to have a true preamp section. Should be an amazing DAC that can feed an amplifier and control the volume.
Should work as long as your sources are all digital. I don’t think it has any analog inputs, or it would be called a preamp, and probably eat into the Gold Preamp sales.
Just a thought… the DSD MK2 is on special this month and with the trade in of your GCD it would come out to $3999…. .
great if you live in the US, I live in the UK, where the trade in programme is not available
My ONLY source is a digital Innuos… but need the pre ins for my a/v amp, so will have to look else where I reckon (like the Ferrum Wandla)
I too have the SGCD and want to keep the preamp. I intend to add the Stellar Gold DAC to upgrade the DAC function but keep the preamp portion.
I had an SGCD–an all around great component in it’s class and price point.
I agree. I thought it was better than it got credit for. But after 5 very enjoyable years, I’m trading mine in tomorrow after auditioning the Gold preamp for the last 3 weeks.
Awesome!
