Drivers' axial meeting

Have you noticed different general tendencies between driver (including waveguides) types in how their axes best meet (slightly in front of the head pointing at inverse ears, pointing right at the corresponding ears, pointing behind the head, even parallel)?

I guess this depends largely on their dispersion and beaming characteristics obviously, but surely these aren’t entirely simple (or the only) parameters.
Myself, after reading a Stereophile review of speakers with horn(-esque) tweeter waveguides similar to my JBL monitors’, stating they image best when pointed at inverse ears, I tried this slight change of angle with my JBLs, and yes, their imaging really shines now! Never before did I get aural images projected behind my head.

Please discuss this in detail.
