The 'DSD' indication on the screen shows that everything is working correctly. DoP does not actually change the DSD data, it just packages it in such a way that it fools the system into thinking it is dealing with PCM. The Bridge ignores the packaging and processes it as the DSD it really is. If your player were actually converting the DSD to PCM, you wouldn't see 'DSD'.
Exactly. When I check the box that says DSD as DoP in Jriver 21, the DS DAC shows DOP as the Input.
I’m aware that the packaging done in DoP is supposed to be transparent, it’s only a wrapper. But why use a wrapper if you don’t need to?
Sorry for the misleading statement. I forgot there was a separate on-screen indication for DoP. I don’t use JRiver; maybe it can stream DSD directly without requiring the DoP wrapper if you check all the right boxes.
I stopped using JR a while ago because I thought it was just way too heavyweight for serving music to me PWD (now DS). Maybe I need to take another look.
Not a problem. None of this is intuitive, at least to me. I originally started streaming with JRiver not knowing you’re “supposed” to check the box that says “DSD over DoP” and got the results in the photo – pure DSD going to the Bridge. Then I read some posts about the Bridge, JRiver, and so forth, checked the box and got DOP transfer of files to the Bridge.
I don’t honestly know if it makes a difference in terms of sound but simpler always seems better to me. Probably why I’ve owned conrad-johnson equipment in one form or another since 1993. Or vice-versa.
