Have you tried the Transparent ic with your BHK preamp? If you have, you probably will be saving for the Transparent ic as well. After I put in a pair of WW Platinum Eclipse 8’s with my preamp, HUGE difference!!! Same as my brother’s Conrad Johnson preamp with his BHK 250. But of course, don’t listen to a $3k pair of ic’s and you are good.

Since purchasing the BHK preamp, I upgraded my speaker cables and some power cords with Synergistic Research’s affordable Foundation line, which made almost as much difference as a the Audience line conditioner I added right before that. Probably the best bang for the buck cables I’ve ever tried. So my next upgrade will be replacing my two sets of interconnects and the rest of my power cords with the SR Foundation line.
I received the BHK preamp back today. I must say that my initial impression is the sound has lost a little of the magic the 250 brought to the seen but the fleshed out bass is back.
The preamp had its ‘input board’ replaced and the stock tubes with few hours are still in…so I’ll be patient and let her spent some time playing.
Yeah, with the input board, that puppy will need some good hours on it. Specially with the new tubes. Hang tight, it will be back!

She’s back to the full sweet sound I was used to…plus the BHK 250 has fully bloomed as well. Next level for sure.
Nice! I’d say a week ain’t half bad.
Full time playing, amp off when it’s quiet or tv time, helps gather hours. Plus the rest of the unit already had thousands of hours.

Wow older topic but, I found the DS into the BHK pre into the BHK amps more musical, rich, and satisfying. Sound a bit flat plugged directly from the DS senior to BHK amps. Kept volume on DS out at 77, seemed to keep me around 45-60 on the pre.
When I went direct the first time as a trial my wife asked me what was wrong with the system.
