I just tried a WW Platinum 8 ethernet cable between my EtherREGENT and server and was quite startled by the improvement in sound compared to regular cat6 cable. Much more air and clarity. I didn’t know ethernet cables can affect the sound. Hard to understand.
I have replaced all Ethernet cables with WW Platinum. An expensive but extremely worthwhile upgrade.
Today I ordered a Inakustik Cat7 Referenz cable from a Canadian company I have never dealt with before. I accidently broke off the little tab that holds an Ethernet plug in place and when I contacted my former source about a repair the price was insane. So I decided to try this new company.
They are called Worldwide Wholesales and they handle many lines including Inakustik. The owner of the company told me the way they do business is you send them the amount of money they require via Paypal FRIENDS and then give them your shipping address and the send you a tracking number. I balked. I said maybe on a second purchase but not on a first. He countered with look at my reviews on Audiogon. I did that. For the 5 meter cable they wanted $350 no tax, no shipping so what the hell. I sent him $350 via Paypal Friends and a few minutes later I had a tracking number. I remember the same sort of thing with Revelation Audio Labs.
I have my fingers crossed but I do not have high hopes.
Canadiens are supposed to be legit right?
Having been a full Vivaldi dcs owner, and having experimented with their network bridge, I believe the bridge is their weakest product. The Vivaldi upsampler is way superior than the network bridge, even when in non upsampling mode.
But the truth is, to me, that dcs is geared towards using their transport. This is one of the main reasons I moved forward (the other one being the sheer complexity of all the setup). I am not in the mood of building a CD library nowadays.
And I have found better (and somewhat cheaper) sound solutions.
I think it depends if their Mounty uniform is original issue or comes from a Halloween Costume shop. But I am dying to hear if the cable shows up. Given this is a friends and family transaction you are out there on your own.
One of my Inakustik Excellence CAT 6 has same issue. I think you should see if there is a warranty on the cable. hmmm I need to search that out. My CAT 7 Referenz cables seem to have a stouter connector with better plastic . Currently my Broken CAT 6 is hooked to a amazon firetv with a rubberband jury rig to keep in place.
I’ve bought a ton of stuff from him, you’ll be fine.
Canadiens are supposed to be Montreal hockey players. Know the difference!
I got a text from DHL telling me the cable will arrive tomorrow. Dang! That’s even stranger.
No warranty from the fellow I bought it from in Germany. He wants 55 Euros to repair it and 35 Euros to ship it back to me. I’ll make do with how it is now.
In the end it was my fault, I was in a hurry and I disconnected it and tugged it through a mess of cables. Live and learn I guess.
Good luck with the new one, Al!
I too think it’s weird to do friends via PayPal for a brand new item from a business. At least a titch shady imho.
Indeed. The first thing aI was interested in purchasing from Rob was the Inakustik 4004 speaker cables at $6200. I don’t know if I can Paypal friends that kind of money…
Oh just get the 4004 silver ones for $16K and let the rest of your friends and family here do the same through your PayPal account. We’ll all enjoy your excess even more and hear what you’re hearing to boot.
I just compared my WW Platinum 8 ethernet cable with my Inakustik Excellence CAT 6 cable and the WW is completely in another league, not even close!! Maybe I should get their Cat7 Referenz and try again. The good thing is the Inakustik’s do not cost too much.
There is absolutely zero chance I will pay the cost of the Platinum 8.
I am sticking with Inakustik Cat7 Referenz as I have tried a dozen different Ethernet Cables and not one has made any noticeable difference to my ear. Nada. I was told to get Inakustik Cat 7, I did. Then I was told to get Inakustik Cat 6. I did. I already had various Wireworld, Blue Jeans, Audioquest, etc cables. I can’t hear a difference but the Wireworld are definately the best built. Lots of metal, no plastic.
I do not doubt that you hear a difference my friend. I am kind of pleased I don’t.
The place I’m hearing the difference is between the EtherREGENT and my server. Other places not so much. I tried a run of the mill CAT6 cable also and it was even worst. The EtherREGENT also made a significant improvement to the sound. Without the EtherREGENT and WW cable, the sound was better plugging a memory stick to the USB of the server.
I have an EtherREGEN in my system.
I also use an English Electric 8 Switch in my system.
I also have a Sonore OPTICALMODULE in my system feeding fiber to my Signature Rendu Optical Type II streamer.
All of the above with upgrade linear power supplies.
I have tried a few things, many that you have suggested. In fact, you are the reason I am what I am. LOL
(But people don’t see that and they just blame me)
Thank you my friend. You are a very funny man. LOL. Alway love hearing what you have to say.
Yeah a few hundred for the Referenz or you can spend 2.5 K on an Omega Shunyata. Omega Ethernet - Shunyata Research
I too found the streamer to router switch ethernet most notable but I have no EtherRegen and just run two Referenz cords. Shunyata prices their Omega cords at outlandish prices. I am fearful of liking one since they cost as much as a decent DAC to buy two of them.
I did like The Excellenz CAT6 better than the Referenz CAT7 in Inakustik cords until I changed the transformers in the DS to Edcor XS4400 then the appreciation for CAT7 realism and separation really became apparent and that CAT6 sounded bass thick and clouded.
I was at a demonstration Wireworld put on at a local audio club. They had a device they would put like a solid piece of metal across and play a track. They would then swap the solid metal pieces for a cheap cable, then a better cable, then a decent Wireworld, then a top of the line Wireworld. In each case the sound got better with each cable upgrade. First they did USB, then they did Ethernet. When the room full of people heard the improvement the then top of the line Platinum Ethernet cable made, we were all very sad.
We were less sad when he did power cables.
I was there, I believe Wireworld Platinum Ethernet cables make a stunning difference. I am also a Wireworld fanboy (or was). But I am not paying $3k for and Ethernet cable. No sir. Can’t do it. I can pay $3k for a USB cable, twice over, which means this is some sort of phobia or tear in my mental fabric. Maybe I’ll change.
