Firmware updates and fixes for the new Directstream MK2

We had a discussion about this further up in (I think) this thread. It seems to depend on the stick. I have one where the same thing happens, but my old Lexar reads and shows the FPGA loads right on insertion. Both formatted the same.

Has anyone noticed with the new FW that the switch to USB from I2S now takes a moment longer? Oh, I think it might be now because I set USB to Auto Power.

I would suggest that PS Audio set up a purchasable drive with the files on the ā€œAccessoriesā€ page, where Sunlight and other options exist. Might make getting some customers set up easier for both the mothership and those customers.

the one Iā€™m using is an old Lexar although USB 3. The FPGA versions show up fine unless I just did a firmware update. Before the 2.3.5 update I had 2 beta FPGA versions on the drive that would show up fine but once I was doing a firmware update I have to pull the drive and re-insert for the FPGA versions to appear in the load window. Not a big deal once I figured that out.

Barry,

Thanks for keeping us updated on all this stuff ā€“ much appreciated!

Ted since Iā€™m using an optical usb cable (similar to Corning you have mentioned) due to being a long run, is it still suggested to lift ground on USB?

This is Mandarin Chinese to meā€¦ would you be so kind as to explain to me when I should run the bit-perfect test and when not?

You may want to also check the default setting for i2s. It defaults to ā€œnormalā€ instead of ā€œinvertedā€ like all other PS audio gear.
ā€œData & L/Rā€ needs to be set to ā€œInvertedā€ for both i2s inputs if you want compatibility across PS audio devices.

I just got a fast and super fix directly from Barry on the new updates. After he corrected my course I was all loaded and it popped right to the Versions, etc. I did some minor system setting changes which was no big thing because I was just running it in on another system to get some miles on it and play around so now Iā€™ll put it in the real system and listen all my Soupy Sales 200g remasters. Thanks Mr Barry!!

How similar to the Corning cable  The Corning cable used optical for the data but still have (very small) copper conductors for the power and ground - something I didnā€™t realize when I bought it.

If there is any copper in your cable lifting the ground might make a difference. Whether that would be better or worse isnā€™t obvious.

The bit perfect test is used to verify your system is configured correctly. Once done there is no need to do it again unless you make changes to your system.

It might be easier to play these tracks. If they play correctly then you are good to go.
The tracks verify left and right channels in both PCM and DSD. They also check polarity for both.
You will hear. ā€œThis is the Right Channelā€ā€¦ PCM, then DSD.
You will hear. ā€œThis is the Left Channelā€ā€¦ PCM, then DSD.
You will hear. ā€œThis is in Phaseā€ā€¦ PCM, then DSD.
You will hear. ā€œThis is out of Phaseā€ā€¦ PCM, then DSD.

Jeff, on my Win10 machine this site raises safety warnings for the firewall.

If itā€™s Edge it will. Firefox doesnā€™t and itā€™s safe.
Here is another link.

I very much appreciate the update. I especially appreciate having the bit perfect test back. Gives me a sense of confidence everything upstream is correctly configuredā€¦thanks Mr. Ted and PSA team!

Thanks Barry - it looks like v2.3.6 is now as expected. :+1:

Please note that for v2.3.3, selecting the download option also brings up v2.3.6. Iā€™m not sure anyone will want v2.3.3 at this point but wanted to point the discrepancy out to you nonetheless.

Apologies but whatā€™s the difference?

This is correct procedure if itā€™s not working. You may need to make sure your USB stick is formatted using FAT32 as well.

I found the problem and have a new 2.5.1 load. It addresses the following:

  • Old settings are now properly carreid over to the new v2.5 settings
  • Balance on the remote now works

Iā€™m still in test with this release and Iā€™m leary about releasing something end of day, so Iā€™ll finish my testing and plan to have it up on the website in the morning.

Thanks to everyone for your patience and helpful input!
