Good Movies

A fine thriller based on the post Watergate paranoia and belief in Independent American Journalism of the day. Dave Grusin, well every time I see his name it conjures up the Baretta Theme… FWIW.

Ride the High Country, Sam Peckinpah’s revisionist western about aging in changing times.

Such a good thriller. It still invokes a sort of dread every time I view it. Back then, the premise of contingency plans in the event of a food and fuel crisis seemed thought provoking. Now-a-days, in light of the current world upheavals; it’s more visceral and unnerving.

Horror movies from opposite ends of the genre, set nearly 50 years apart.
The one that started it all. …."They’re coming to get you Barbara!"

A modern day (2016) revisionist movie, as seen from a Korean viewpoint. Basically a thrilling high energy romp with a very loosely knit social theme and no redeeming intellectual value. Zombies on meth, basically.

The animated prequel is also quite good.

Top Gun: Maverick does justice to the original and surpasses it. The aerial sequences are the real deal, shot from the cockpit and breathtaking. I don’t have an IMAX close, but did see it in a Dolby theater equipped with Atmos, recliners with infrasonic effects, the lot. Wow!

I remember 3 Days of the Condor most for the performance of Max von Sydow as an ice in the veins professional assassin. Still gives me the chills.

Any Viggo Mortensen fans in the community? Huge admirer here. Eastern Promises was a knockout.

He’s teamed up again with David Cronenberg in Crimes of the Future. I’ve got a ticket for this afternoon. Wouldn’t miss it

The book is good too - though its 6, not 3 days

I did like the Train to Busan movie

Viggo was very good in Green Book as well.

Really enjoyed Top Gun Maverick at the local IMAX theater yesterday.

If you are of a certain age and familiar with the story, I think you find the movie to be a fun ride.

I read an article the other day dubbing Tom Cruise as “The Last Action Hero”. Sadly, that might just be the case. If you are a fan of the franchise, one of the movie previews shown before the movie was the next installment of Mission Impossible. “They” already have my money, so to speak, as I plan on going to see that on the big screen as well.

It was nice to be back in the theater.

Critically speaking, I would add “Enemy at the Gates” to this list of Good Movies, in terms of it being a “must see”.

Not sure it was mentioned here previously – a great film (its better than the cheesy trailer):

As I have just commented elsewhere, and I don’t think I’ve mentioned it here before, but Aardman animations’ “Wallace and Gromit - A Grand Day Out” is a must see.
Top Gun it ain’t, but it is an excellent example of quiet British whimsy.

For those who haven’t been exposed to W & G (I don’t know how much it was promoted in the US and elsewhere, if at all), it’s half an hour, if you haven’t seen it, go watch it (it is probably on YouTube).
Once you have, then try their “A Close Shave” which is many ways even better.

Excellently clever stuff, W & G.

Cheers.

Going to see today😃

Timely…

Better!?

A “Good Movie”, indeed.

Is this the 1994 release, or is there a newer remake?
