Hearing Aids - Where To Start

Someone from the 1890’s told to go buy a laptop would have a better chance of getting started than me figuring out where to get started with hearing aids. Anyone have any hearing aid 101 recommendations?

I’d start with an audiologist.

There are a good number of threads on this topic, such as:

I should have said that I have done that much. My ears measure than expected but I do need to figure out next steps. Of course she handed me brochures for a couple of top of the models and demo’d a pair that was admittedly impressive, as it should be for something pushing $5K.

Thanks Elk. I briefly poked but pretty much felt immediately overwhelmed with the whole thing. I’ll take a deeper dive.

I wish there was a cure for tinnitus. Bugs the hell out of me when I go somewhere and its supposed to be silent, like camping etc.

Try a pair of Apple iPods Pro2 which have a hearing aid function. I have had mild to moderate hearing loss - depending on the day - for going on 20 years. The iPods work better for my needs - conversation, phone calls, watching TV - than any of the five $2000 + professional hearing aids I’ve tried including Phonak 70s. The iPods can be had for around $200 and while not perfect, they have permanently changed the quality of my auditory life for the better.
