My system does better with the high regulation. So my program is to leave the components on, except for the pre-amp tube button and the sub and then “clean” when needed and if that doesn’t work at some point to do a power cycle, leaving the p20 at least off at wall switch or unplugged if possible. I am grateful for all the help. It is good to know where the problem is and that it is electricity.
For the clean function to work for your preamp turn preamp on
prior to cleaning. If your sub is connected to P20 then it too
would benefit but must be powered on as well…
Hope this will turn out for you
Best wishes
Thank you! I will do that. Do you know what is being cleaned out?
Some years back Paul said:
By degaussing the transformer it helps not only the sound but, as you have seen, it can demagnetize the lams so they don’t buzz from DC.
Obviously the Clean function degausses via the mains cord. There’s another way which is meant to degauss stuff by playing audio signals in a certain way. I occasionally use the degaussing track as mentioned in this forum post XLO CD Demagnetizing sweep - Everything Else - PS Audio
Hi Folks,
I have followed your suggestions and now have a program. I have to turn the system off overnight every two or three nights or the sound is too confused to listen to now that I am used to listening to it behaving better. I understand that with the degaussing I am demagnetising. Is it the same thing that happens with turning off the system at the wall? Is any of this called “noise” or “distortion”? I don’t think I actually know what noise is if there is no hum or hiss.
The noise that we are most often referring to is subliminal. It exists below our threshold of conscious awareness. But it does exist and it competes with the most delicate music signals.
If it exceeds those signals, it masks or smears what you can hear.
When you lower the “noise floor”, suddenly you can consciously hear more inner detail.
Usually costs money, though.
