Interesting Articles

I didn’t see a thread for articles in general, only threads for individual articles. I figured I’d start a thread for articles of interest that probably don’t need their own thread because they may not generate a long discussion. Elk, please feel free to move it if it makes sense in another thread.

I found this Forbes article pretty interesting. The author talks to many notables including: Brian Blade, Jason Moran, Vijay Iyer, Henry Threadgill.

This is the perfect spot! It is fun to read articles like this, and anything else related to music.

Great idea…!

The Orpheus Chamber Orchestra (conductor less) was an academic case study for successful self-driven teamwork.

Thanks! I was unfamiliar. I’d heard the name but had no idea there was no conductor.

Also the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra, which has won a couple of Grammys.

Not the only pianist to have had the misfortune of a health issue interrupting his passion. Leon Fleisher lost his right hand to focal dystonia at the tender age of 36. Didn’t end his career altogether. The story I think is probably well known to a number of members of this community. Fleisher did eventually regain use of his right hand, but only after the prime of his career had passed. Fortunately, during that lengthy period of time he did continue with left hand only, albeit with a limited repertoire and did have other musical pursuits.
