Interesting Articles

According to Angela, the angelic audiologist, my hearing cuts out at 15K.
Kinda deflating when she said “that’s good for a man your age”.

Ha, ha.

“Angie, you’re beautiful, yeah
But ain’t it time we said goodbye?“

:slightly_smiling_face:

This is interesting. Seems to be a lack of info about what exactly it is and what it will take to play it. Even Mikey doesn’t know any more about it yet. Interestingly, in searching for more info on Neo Fidelity, I found myself reading an article from Wired on Code, a Burnett format that “can be played on DVD players”. Then I noticed the article was from 2008.:man_shrugging:t2:

It would be great fun if a truly new recording medium is introduced. But at the moment this feels exactly like MQA. Not a good sign.

Sorry for the pop up ads.

Or maybe Pono.

I was thinking Pono as well.

Given the title of this thread, I hesitate to post this short essay of mine, as doing so seems presumptuous. But especially in light of the thread foray about 10 days ago into the matter of hearing loss (sorry for the delay - I haven’t been keeping up), some folks might find this worthwhile, if only in a tangential way:

A followup has been written and I’m told its publication is scheduled for Issue 164.

I still have an original yellow Pono around here somewhere. I sent the Burnett thing to my brother, who noted the Magical Thinking-ness of:

“An Ionic Original is the pinnacle of recorded sound. It is archival quality. It is future-proof. It is one of one. Not only is an Ionic Original the equivalent of a painting, it is a painting. It is lacquer painted onto an aluminum disc, with a spiral etched into it by music. This painting, however, has the additional quality of containing that music, which can be heard by putting a stylus into the spiral and spinning it.”

Sounds expensive too. And I tend not to drag needles across my original artworks.:stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes: Not that I wouldn’t love it if it were truly something new.

I am not opposed to a new format that is the be all end all of delivering content. It needs good adoption and be around for a few years before I will dive in.

Just looking at the availability of downloadable DSD content should give all of us pause concerning a new format. Outside the classical genre, the amount of DSD available to download is paltry.

Cool tech.

[thread hijack alert]
But is it “full range?”

:stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Only if you do walls that are hollow…you need the bass response

I really dislike wallpaper so I doubt my speakers should ever feel threatened, but what I found really interesting is the many different applications envisioned and how many more others will dream up.

Exactly my take away.
