Paul McGowan said: the Bridge will never do gapless, unfortunately. We have been working on a new version for some time now, one that will do gapless.
Originally, quite a while back, I was thinking/assuming that there would be an inexpensive, or even free, upgrade of some sort that "fixed" the gapless issue. Then it became evident that, since gapless was never an original design objective, the solution to playing gapless via the PWD would eventually be an add-on of some sort. I'm wondering just how expensive this solution is going to be...?

IIRC (someone correct me if I'm wrong) Paul said that WaveStream would be free to current Bridge/PWD owners. So if you play music from a computer (not a NAS) you should be good. If you don't want to wait for WaveStream, try Foobar2000, which plays gapless and is free, although takes a bit of learning to set up (as does JRiver, which is not free).
For NAS folks, like me, a purchase is in the future. We can't expect PSA to offer Bridge II as a free upgrade, but I hope they can offer a discount for current Bridge owners who have had some frustrating times with the original. If you don't want to wait, get a Moon MInD player; I got one used for $800. Or try one of the products from Sonore. So we're talking $800-1000, I'm afraid.
Ben, magister beat me to it. Have you ever tried foobar2000? With the UPnP streaming output plug-in (just download and install the two components that start with “UPnP”, restart foorbar2000, go to preferences, output, and select your PWD and 24 bits) it plays gapless for me up to and including 192/24. The program is free and the MonkeyMote controller app for iDevices is 2 or 3 bucks. Like all the other software people have tried, it works better for some than others. It’s Windows only but I seem to recall you’re a Windows guy.
+1 on Foobar2000
Thanks guys. I’ve become so comfortable using JRiver that I hate to change servers again… Can JRiver be set up to play gapless?
In JRiver go to Tools>Options>Audio . Under Audio you will see Track Change. Check the box next to Gapless. In my system I have both Foobar 2000 & JRiver. JRiver sounds better than Foobar for me. Maybe other systems are different.

Yes, but not to the Bridge. JRiver will play gapless to USB or a device internal to the computer. That is where WaveStream comes in as it is seen by JRiver (or any audio source) as an internal device.
J.P.
@timequest Indeed, when we finish WaveStream it will be free to any Bridge owner. When we manage to release Bridge II we’ll make it possible to trade in your Bridge 1 so 1 owners won’t pay much.

Sounds reasonable (without knowing the trade in price).
Haxter1- I don’t think you can see that option when using the bridge. JRiver does not support gapless to the bridge.
Yes I know this. I thought that a comparison was being made between Foobar & JRiver. Foobar being able to play gapless and JRiver not able to. Like all of you I am still waiting.
Thanks Paul. That’s good to know; very reasonable.
JRiver will play gapless only if the PC is directly connected to the PWD (USB, SPDIF, etc.). It will not play gapless to the Bridge until WaveStream is available.
Mine is invisible as in I sold it
So it’s not there anymore. I love so audio but that bridge was the mist frustrating
Device I have tried. Use the USB and enjoy the music. And make your frustrations disappear

Justin is in Australia and the ISP modem/routers have notorious culprits.
Their firmwares for residential do not appear to be designed for our purposes.
Best results have been to use the modem only and build the LAN with Linksys, Netgrear Asus etc where the settings are more useable and they are not affected by overnight updates from the ISPs.
Even better, buy a commercial grade gigabit switch, they can handle much higher switching speeds, without any slowdown, and are intended to run forever without being rebooted. You can find good deals on a used Cisco, Dell or HP switch, it doesn’t have to be a managed switch either, just one intended for a data-center, versus something you might buy at Best-buy. My 48 port HP switch has been powered on for 3 years without issue, and has an aggregate throughput of 96 Gbps so lets just say, I’ll never saturate the thing… ever. I’m only using ~20 of the 48 ports. I think I paid $200 from some guy on Ebay. There are deals to be found.
He needs a router for his LAN wifi and for iPad or other controller though.
Yup, you can do both For example, I have an ASUS Router / Wifi (which is connected to the Cable modem on the WAN side. The 4 port switch is not used, other than to connect to the 48 port HP, so any Ethernet connected PCs in the house are connected up to the HP. The Asus Router (for my Wifi) extends off of the HP - you end up with the best of both worlds.
@louawalters
Cool.
I know this is an old thread - but I’ll add to it anyway (its title is invisible bridge…).
I’ve battled off and on with my bridge since 2010 (bought new…). Sometimes its great, other times it is the most frustrating piece of &^*^ I own. It does sound good, however, I have found for a majority of the time, its difficult to use. A current update… 2 nights ago I thought I’d give JRiver a go as I have tried off and on (off because I wanted to listen to music!) for the last 2 weeks to get my bridge to stream through eLyric. Elyric has been working off and on for me for a while. If it all stops, generally I reboot everything, and eventually, I can get tunes again…up until 2 weeks ago. I don’t know what was so different, but I hadn’t been able to listen to anything excluding USB connections since then. Until 2 nights ago, I downloaded JRiver and boom!! It worked straight away (with JRemote). Then, I thought tonight I’d listen to some music and…nothing!! JRiver cannot see my invisible bridge. It has disappeared and no matter how many reboots, how many UPnP resets I do, how many modem turn off / on I do absolutely no bridge. I don’t know how to search and set an IP address with the Media Center, so as a last resort, I turned back to Elyric. Initially, no joy, then I renamed the DAC and miracle of miracles there it was!! So I could listen to music again through the bridge. Well, I can listen to 2 albums (Polyphia and Led Zeppelin), it won’t let me select anything else…
Ultimately, I hope the next bridge is nothing like this one. This bridge has been heart breaking. Like the hottest women you’ve ever laid your eyes on, it promises so much and then it talks…(or in the bridges case, doesn’t at all).
