It's almost ALL audiophile

I hear you on labels. But for some reason, the “audiophile” one doesn’t bother me too much, maybe because I’m kind of a later-comer. I try to apply a pretty broad description to it. I had a friend who used to say the difference between a musician and a normal person is that a musician tries to figure out what he or she likes about what they hear. In other words, they THINK about it. I’d say a similar thing here: an audiophile is someone who cares about how a recording sounds and thinks about what is interesting about it. So I guess any recording could be “audiophile” as long as someone thinks it is well-produced from a sound perspective.

My apologies Jon. Now edited and corrected. I need to brush up on my ‘copy/paste’ skills.

PS The link you provided is another good one, more visual than the one I provided. Mine is one to the (audio only) version from the (downloaded) album I own.

I’ve been following your conversation with great interest. Along the lines of film score composers with well recorded music, someone I’d like to offer up in addition to those you’ve already discussed and whom I also enjoy, is Max Richter, creator of the extremely unique score to the 2016 film “Arrival”, a meditative piece called “On The Nature of Daylight” and, an eight hour piece entitled “Sleep”. Google them/him for more info in your interested.

Max seems to tick many of the boxes in terms of interesting, intelligent and well recorded.
Cheers!

I agree. Max Richter is another of my favourite composers. His music resonates with me as well. The recordings I have of his music generally seem to be of a high quality as well. Check out his score for “Mary Queen of Scots”. Apart from his soundtracks, I also love his re-invention of Vivaldi’s “Four Seasons”.

Thanks for fixing that. When I get home I promise to give it a listen.

I don’t know why, but I was reminded of an LP a friend of mine had back in the 1980s - it was titled The Wit & Wisdom of Ronald Reagan. It ran for 45 minutes, but was completely blank on both sides. He joked that he was going to bring it back to the store and complain that it had a skip 2/3 of the way through Side B.
