Just noticed

I am hopefully getting the Stellar Gold Dac early in the New Year.and have just noticed that the USB only goes to DSD128. As I have a few Octave recordings (DSD256) that are ripped to my Innuos Zen MK3, am I right in thinking I should take the innuos USB and connect it to my Matrix Audio converter and from there via the AQ Carbon HDMI to the i2s input on the Gold Dac, as the rate is higher at DSD 256

Or just purchase a more capable DAC and be done with it.

A swap to a Grimm MU2 would solve any and all issues, and you don’t need the new DAC or the Innuos, or their power cables and interconnects. Having a Matrix around seems handy though.

That would be the easy way out, but it does not answer the question  I want the Gold Dac and not some other make

thats all well and good, but I have the kit I want and can afford, a Grimm is way, way above any budget I have

The DAC in the MU2 is miles above the DAC you want. No need to respond.

You seem to be on the right track for what you want to accomplish, but I haven’t used a matrix, so I cannot confirm yes or no. Hopefully someone that knows the answer to your question can respond.

Do the specs say USB is limited to 128? or is this just in your use case? The Matrix would solve this is I2S supports 265.

The specs mention that DSD128 is the maximum rate DSD for the USB input.

Another options is this.

Great price. streamer you have and use this. That is if you are roon…but you may not be.

It just seems to be a cobbled up solution in a day when better options exist.

the Matrix DDC should pass DSD 256 over I2S to the DAC

My simple suggestion is to buy the Airlens and use Roon into the Stellar Gold dac. That’s what I did and I’m very satisfied. KISS :slightly_smiling_face:
