Listening to DSD 256

I was looking at them online. So would I connect this to my DS or use it alone connected to my Preamp. Thanks for this info.

Alone, connected to the preamp.
When using the RCA or XLR out, you do have to set that in the screen of the unit in order for it to make sounds.

So this DAC is as good as or better than my DS?

I have not had a proper audition of the DS in my system, so I cannot compare the A6 to PSA. I can say that DSD256 files do sound nice on the A6.

OK. It seems that I could try it with the DS and without. A reviewer said it could be connected to an external DAC. It must be pretty good because you are using it in a very fine kit.

In order to play DSD256 on your DS, you need to update your firmware to Sunlight and get a USB to I2S converter like the Matrix 2 and feed the DSD265 file to the USB input of the converter. Then I2S out from converter. The DS can only play DSD256 through itā€™s I2S input. And believe me, DSD256 is a special treat played through the DS. Just use any streamer with DSD256 capabilities. You donā€™t need another DAC.

Thank you very much.

And, you donā€™t need to achieve DSD256 playback in order to enjoy the benefits of higher (than 44/16) resolution files.

FWIW, the musicality of the performance on the recording and the quality of the recording engineering usually are more important than the playback resolution.

YMMV.

There are some excellent suggestions above. Just keep in mind that your DAC/Bridge combo is capable of opening your ears and eyes to a better overall performance than what you are currently experiencing (with the right recordings).

Cheers.

The 44/16 files sound pretty good from the DS. Makes me want to hear more.lol I listen to Rudy Gelder remasters of the jazz classics and they sound good.

Two audiophile geniuses I have the utmost respect for believe DSD is a crime against God and man. They prefer PCM. I have five terrabytes of DSD, including 50 titles of DSD256. Personally, I am not very interested in collecting any more. YMMV.

Couldnā€™t I just use the HDMI out on the Eversolo to the HDMI input on the DS? Or are they different systems even though itā€™s an hdmi cable?

Because of so much processing?

That question was answered by another member in the forum.

[Anyone know if the I2s output on the Eversolo DMP-A8 is (pin) compatible with the PS Audio DS DAC MK1?]
[Yes, it is compatible. I am using the 'A8 with my DS DAC.]

There you go, you donā€™t need a USB to I2S converter.

No it is not. The A8 is a different machine. The HDMI out on the A6 is an HDMI out. NOT an i2s. If you hook up the A6 to the i2s input on the DSD MK1 you will get nothing.

You are right. Itā€™s the A8 that is compatible, but doing so also has a problem of channels being reversed according to some A8 owners. Looks like a USB to I2S converter is required for the A6 after all.

You guys have been very helpful to me with this endeavor.
Question: With regards to break in, since dacs require hours of break in, can you just leave it on or does it have to be processing something? Does it have to output a signal? My amp and pre use a lot of electricity.

you can run the dac and streamer/computer/whatever so that the dac is working (and burning in) but simply leave the preamp and power amp switches off until you want to actually listen
