So I got a pair of M700’s a little over a month ago, they keep getting better and better over time but I do have them stacked on top of each other currently. I use them in a combined HT and 2 Channel set-up running a pair of KEF R11’s. I really don’t have a choice to not have them stacked in my current audio rack but have space to spread them out a bit with some kind of spacers. How far would i need to spread them apart to gain some benefit? I do have some SVS subwoofer SoundPath isolation feet that I could possibly use to spread them apart a few inches. Any thoughts if that would help or not?

Stack the Stack. I have 3 stacked on a shelf ! L, C, & R channel duties. Makes ZERO difference. Ag :angry:ain, thank you Stereophile

I had mine stacked at first then moved them to side by side (so I could stack my Nucleus+ and not block anything) and I couldn’t tell any difference either.
I have had the pair for a year and a half and no issues of any kind. They hit way above their price point.

How are you liking the R11’s? I have the M700’s and SGCD and have been considering the KEFs. I’m curious how well the combo works.

I love the R11 and M700 combo. They play well together. I replaced a set of NHT 3.3’s from the 90’s that I loved and with the exception of the 11’s not playing all the way down to 20 Hz like the NHT’s they are superior. I was on the search for replacements for the NHT’s for years but once I heard the R11’s on demo I knew within minutes i had to have a pair.

They have arrived - must have snuck in under the May deadline . . .

Plugged in last night, they sound noticeably better this morning (as I’d expect . . . ).

Yes, yes, yes!!! Can’t wait.

So I happened upon the Stereophile review of the M700’s and the reviewer really makes a case for not stacking them. I keep liking them more as time goes by, 2 months now, 2 weeks in the separated position. I think they sound better separated. That said I am by no means expert and it could very well just be me enjoying the fact that I have them and over time it’s just grown on me and would be the same had I left them stacked.

Hi -

To me, the difference in stacked v unstacked is obvious, even after less than 24 hours of them being plugged in. Unstacked is noticeably better, even with one sitting on the floor - better than stacked in my TV stand.

But don’t take a random guy’s word from the internet - listen for yourself!

Earlier in the thread someone suggested placing weight on the top of the M700’s for better sound. I did a little research and found some milled steel and aluminium cylinders with rubber vibration dampening pads on the contact surface. On the website I found them there were 3 different offered in different weights ranging from 1 to 2kg and at a price of $280-330 depending on which one and two were recommended per unit. I went with the 1kg polished aluminium but only one per unit as seen in the image.

I had my doubts but it really did improve the sound by a small but noticeable amount. Little more clarity in the mids and highs and a bit of an improved soundstage. Oh, one thing I forgot to mention. Instead of buying from the Audio place I went elsewhere and got a better deal. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07BGYK245/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Looks/quality pretty much the same and saved a few bucks!

You know what does make a difference? The M1200.
The M1200 makes a difference, lol

As it should for twice the investment.

I have no intention of parting with my m700’s anytime soon. They are perfect for the system that they are in. Still enjoying them after a year and a half.

It’s now been a few months that the BHK Pre and M700 combo has settled in together, and the musicality is breathtaking. I am extremely happy with the system. The system is smooth when it should be and dynamic when it should be. Female vocals are silky smooth. Violins sound real. The system can EASILY play Introduction to Also Sprach Zarathustra (Richard Strauss) (Time Warp, Telarc Cincinnati Pops Orchestra) without any sense of stress or strain (97db speakers doesn’t hurt either in this regard). Pictures at an Exhibition (Eiji Oue and the Minnesota Orchestra, Reference Recordings) is reproduced with subtlety and grandeur and depth. While the early beta reviews rave about the M1200, especially in relation to the M700, the M700 monoblocks are still excellent, particularly when combined with the BHK Preamp.

I’m partial to the Living Stereo SACD and of course ELP’s version which led me into Classical Music as a whole.

Our music teacher used PAAE to demonstrate different arrangements of the same piece of music.
Piano, orchestral, and then he grudgingly introduced the ELP version, and left the room muttering that all music from this century (this was 1978) was rubbish, but at least the organ playing at the start meant he had some sort of proper classic music training.
