You are right! I did not see the cable on the regular website description and was going off the differences in the Starlight vs Silver Starlight of the USB type (DNA Helix only on Silver SL, not regular SL). So, as you already pointed out, the only difference is the “clad” vs “plated” which I have no idea the difference.
Thanks, @cudfoo . . . Seems like I got a good price on a discontinued WireWorld Starlight 7 HDMI. But the WW would need to beat my $12 OneConvey HDMI for me to consider the $132 well spent. The WW is due to arrive on Monday, 3/18. Any thoughts on how much burn-in time the WW DNA Helix HDMI cables need to sound their best? Thanks.
Funny you should ask that…I was going to ask you about the One Convey and and the Matrix itself.
I got my Matrix yesterday and hooked it up with the One Convey. Both were brand new, but I was very unsatisfied with the sound…VERY. Ironically I have 3 of those WW Starlight 7’s that you have been writing about. I have been using them in my AV system for about a year and a half. I pulled the 1m cable off my Blu-ray and put it in place of the One Convey…Beautiful!! You guys are not kidding about the soundstage with this Matrix. Opened up dramatically!!
I am very sure that you will be well pleased when you get the WW in place of your One Convey. I am not sure on burn in time since the WW’s I have, have been running video. But I was wondering on the Matrix. What is your estimate on the burn in time for it?
Thanks for the encouraging words about the WW Starlight 7 HDMI. I have been satisfied with the OneConvey HDMI, and I do not have the issue with it that you mentioned. However, I have not compared other HDMI cables to the OneConvey, and I do not claim that the OneConvey is the best HDMI out there. In fact, I assume there is better out there, but the questions I have been asking are: How much better? And at what cost? Hopefully, the WW Starlight 7 HMDI makes a meaningful improvement over the OneConvey at a (relatively) modest cost.
As for Matrix burn-in time, it is difficult for me to say, as I burned mine in at the same time as I burned in the OneConvey cable. By the way, there is more than one OneConvey HDMI version. The version recommended by the Matrix USA distributor, and the one I have been using, is this one. Oh, and before I forget,
To be honest you might be out of luck there as well. It seems that people either get one or the other and stick with them. A pure speculative guess would be that the aq has a thicker sounding midrange compared to the ww
I really think how each cable sounds is going to be system dependent. I like both companies actually and do think each has a house sound. I think AQ. has a warmer midrange and WW is more detailed. Depending on your system either could nudge it in a different direction.
I’ve never tried WW cables, but have AQ Colorado XLR’s and the well famed Mocha HDMI, and enjoy the combination of warmth and detail. With the Mocha, I’ve been using it with my Apple TV 4K to speed up the break in time between listening sessions, a nice break in convenience.
Hi - If your experience is anything like mine - out of the box the WW will destroy the Convey. WW cables are known not to take all that long to break in. After about 3 days of continuous play you’ll wonder how you lived without it. The WW will make the Convey sound like a $12 cable. A good $12 cable but it’s not on the same planet as the WW - not close.
Hi Wijber,
Could you share how you set up the three dip switches on your Matrix used between Melco and DS? I asked the same question to someone elso, but also would like your opinion. Thanks.
Keep in mind that there would appear to be no good reason to have the “DoP to Native” switch on as the DirectStream will convert it back to DoP anyway.
Hi @zheng4,
Had the dipswitches set just like bootzilla but switched DoP to Native OFF after reading Ted’s post about the DS converting Native back to DoP.
