Nope, don’t hear any change in sound…
(although theoretical this setting causes less stress to both Matrix & DS)
So i finally received my Matrix too. Installed drivers and set it up with Uptone Audio lps1.2 and Zenwave upocc dc cable,Acoustic Revive power cable and SCP 1.0m hdmi to dsd sr
Well, needless to say but this is something i could not expect
Just amazing upgrade,i thought i had it good ,but no,not nowhere near this level. So happy now that i dont even care at the moment about “better” hdmi
The Matrix Club is growing so fast that this will be my last personal welcome message to new members. @somppsa and everyone who purchases a Matrix from here on out, let me be the first to say:
The Matrix does such a good job of re-clocking incoming PCM that I wonder if having the Matrix perform a DOP-to-Native DSD conversion provides a sonic improvement to an incoming DSD signal.
This is a question for @tedsmith, but I don’t see how the conversion to native DSD from DoP feeding the DirectStream would improve clocking. DoP is a 24/176.4 data stream with the DSD data encoded into that stream.
Does any reclocking the Matrix does make a difference to the DirectStream anyway?
ahh man… I’m waiting for Sonore to release their opticalRendu and then the Matrix. I have little reason to ever try the matrix now.
Probably no benefit to reclocking as the Directsteam does not refererence prior clocks.
For any HQPlayer users, last night I tried closed-form-16M with the Matrix and DSD, nice and smooth with acres of soundstage.
You guys have me very tempted by the Matrix & I2s but unsure if it will improve on my current setup:
Innuos Zenith MKII > tX-USBultra/Uptone LPS-1.2>DS Sr (USB via Phasure Lush cables)
The above blows away MKII>Wireworld Silver>Bridge II (of course at a cost)
So if I inserted the Matrix what would be the preferred chain?
Innuos Zenith MKII > tX-USBultra/Uptone LPS-1.2>Matrix>DS Sr?
Innuos Zenith MKII > Matrix/Uptone LPS-1.2>DS Sr?
Anyone with a Innuos/SoTm chain using this? Thanks guys
Well this is cool somppsa. Congrats. I don’t see myself going anywhere else with my digital chain.
For me, an Uptone LPS 1.2 or the like is in the future for the Matrix…
My Matrix switches are set to:
DoP to Native: OFF
IIS Reverse: ON
MCLK: ON
The sound is incredible, and I’m afraid to change anything. I’m using a microrendu into the Matrix and I2S out to my DSD.
Am I missing something?
Thanks
If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!
Thanks,
I asked the question because I really don’t understand what switch 2 and 3 do.
There are 2 different pin definitions for I2S. PS Audio uses the same definition as Matrix products and so the reverse switch should be OFF.
MCLK isn’t used by the DS or DS Jr, the PWD does use it. You might save a modicum of noise by turning MCLK off.
[Edit: Oopssee below: the MCLK switch just selects a different set of MCLK rates. Choose which ever setting you like best.]
Much obliged, Ted!
You probably have left and right channels reversed.
To review, conventual wisdom suggests having all 3 switches off?
If I’m reading the Matrix manual correctly, MCLK can’t be shut off. 1 and 2 are just different clock values.
