I don’t have an LPS. I’m using the same external switching power supply on the Matrix that I used with the RUR for over a year. And I’ve tried the Matrix via USB power. It may be the XMOS U208 chip which I’ve read can sound bright at first.
I have an Singxer SU 1 and have done quite a bit of research on running IIS to the DS Sr. Since IIS was designed for very short distances in side a dac, cd player etc… most people say that the shorter the better when it comes to SQ. I am using a WW starlight 7 .3m hdmi currently havent tried anything longer though.
Are there step by step directions somewhere explaining how to put all of this together? Thanks.
Hmm. I don’t hear mine sounding bright. I have heard higher extension but never something I would call bright at all. Curious - what is your system. I would say mine leans on the warm side of things with my Cary tube pre and my sunfire signature amp plus P10 feeding my Maggie 20.7s. Just compared to my prior setup without the matrix - I would say i lost a bit of digital glare and gained more weight to the music. Plus all the nice things I said before.
No but if you like i could write some
No sir, that is not my point at all. My point is I heard a difference between the Platinum and the Silver Starlight 7 USB cable. That’s it, there ain’t no more.
It is interesting to me that you have no problem accepting that the Matrix made an audible difference to your setup, so much so that you are/may be willing to spend three to four times it’s cost for a power supply for the Matrix. And yet spending $120 for a cable took some time to seem like a worthy expense vs, the $20 cable you already own. I get it, I really do. Unfortunately I have heard the differences these pricier cables can bring. To me it’s as worthy of consideration as the Matrix is.
That would be super cool and helpful to others. Does it involve soldering?
I certainly think the added silver would cause a difference in sound. The difference is likely subjective though as opposed to ‘better’ which would strictly be preference. Copper, silver clad copper and solid silver all different but system and preference dependant.
I have the DSJ —> AQ Colorado XLR’s —> PS Audio S300 amp. I’m hoping the brightness is due to needing more break in…
Matrix my cost = $379
UpTone PSU my cost = $435
UpTone cost = 1.15x that of the Matrix.
I have been following this thread with a great deal of interest and purchased a Matrix due to this discussion. For USB cables, I have found there are differences in presentation going to DAC, of which I have several DAC’s including DS Sr. Prior to the Matrix, I had been using WW Starlight 7 Platinum from SonicTransporter (ST) directly to DS Sr. I have a Paul Peng Red USB that is richer but to me loses detail and top end. When not using DS, I primarily use Rossi LIO 2.0 DAC fed by microrendu and Triode Wire Labs Spirit USB Dongle from microrendu to LIO DAC 2.0. I chose the Dongle for shortness and I like the detail and neutral presentation and allowed me to keep the Starlight to the DS. I use Roon with core on the ST. With the Matrix, I have been unable to get I2S connection from ST with my Starlight 7 Platinum directly to the Matrix. However, using the microrendu and Dongle to the Matrix, I can. For HDMI, I have tried an HDMI I have had for some time with ferrite chokes on each end and the Convey. There appears to be a bit of difference. The cable with chokes seems a bit more detailed but also some brightness/edge to the transients I do not have with the Convey. I use linear power supply for the Matrix and microrendu is connected to the LIO capacitor system for DC. I have read the reports on no difference among similar standard HDMI cables, but with my limited test of 2 cables, there does appear to be some difference in sound presentation of the two inexpensive HDMI cables I have tested. I am very resistant to cost of the Platinum 7 Starlight HDMI and not wild about pricing on the Silver Starlight 7 HDMI either. Pricing on the Starlight 7 is obviously better–wish bootzilla’s deal was common. I look forward to the listening results you folks report.
Ah, thank you for for clarifying that you are simply assuming that the same difference exists between the WW Silver and Platinum Starlight 7 HDMI cables. My WireWorld dealer says the three Starlight 7 HDMI’s sound the same. I did not ask him about the WW USB cables.
Kuhl. I was thinking you were one of the folks who were considering the really expensive supply. I am thinking of buying a commercial 6 volt battery for mine.
No sir, I did not clarify something I don’t actually believe. All I am saying is a heard what I heard.
I am not assuming anything. My Wireworld dealer says all sorts of different things than yours.
I trust my ears, you trust your dealer.
Okay, now I think I know what means to be gaslighted.
Nevertheless, I sincerely hope you enjoy your Matrix, your eventual PSU, and your eventual HDMI.
(If you end up not liking the Matrix, please feel free to blame me; OTOH, if you do enjoy the Matrix, all praise should go to Matrix Audio.)
Whoa whoa whoa. It is plainly seen on the box that platinum is better. Look at that little arrow thing !!!
Matrix arrived and I love it right out of the box.
In Roon, I see it appearing twice:
X SPDIF series / wasapi
And
Matrix Asio driver / asio
Has anyone encountered this ?
Which one should I use? ?
If anyone wants to rough it with me by purchasing a discontinued red-clad WireWorld “Starlight 7” HDMI cable, it appears Galen Carol Audio still has stock at various lengths, including one meter:

You may want to call GC Audio before placing an online order, just to be safe.
Disclaimer: I do not have any affiliation with WireWorld, Galen Carol, GC Audio, Matrix Audio, or the HDMI Founders/Forum.
Philippe, Roon did not display this way for me, but I am using SonicTransporter for Core, not Windows or Mac computer and am using microRendu in order to get HDMI handshake connection displayed on DS. Roon displays Sonore microRendu as Bridge Device and Audio Device below as Unidentified Device but under that says Matrix Audio X-SPDIF 2.
Philippe, I believe wasapi is driver for Windows and asio for Mac, so I would think you would select based on what type computer Roon Core is stored.
