If you are connecting directly from your mac mini, your system might be suffering from the internal noise of the computer. The LanRover isolates such noise, what might explain you finding it to have better SQ.
Try hooking the SPDIF-2 AFTER the LanRover. Then you will be in a better position to judge the real difference of the matrix in your system.
I myself use the SPDIF-2 after an UltraRendu. Much better sound than directly from my PC to the SPDIF-2. Also, better sound with the SPDF-2 on the system than the UltraRendu directly to the DAC.

I installed my iSilencer3.0 USB and will report back, with it and also try what you suggested. Thanks. I also have a Audioquet Jitterbug but I feel the IFi is superior.
My feeling is that the LanRover will be superior to the iFi (given my previous experience with iFi well built but relatively ineffective products).
The Lanrover was not a very good product IMHO. Even when powered with an Uptone LPS-1 on the receiving end and using Wireworld USB cables it couldn’t best the bridge II. I was able to trade it in to PSA for its full retail price, fortunately. PSA was very nice to do this for me, and I really appreciated it. I never looked back. One of the many reasons I enjoy dealing with PS Audio.
Agreed. In my experience the LanRover gets smoked by the UltraRendu, the bridge and even the direct PC connection using a SOtM usb card. But I was comparing to the iFi products…

I quess you are getting a Ghent made dc cable from Uptone? If so,it should be good.
Curious and Inakustik Reference usb´s are very good options.I have both and feel they are “the best” but sound very different. Many use Wireworld platinum also with good results but it´s much more expensive.
Then there is the cable from Matrix to dac,many prefer hdmi,some optical and some aes/ebu

I use a JS-2 Linear Power Supply to power my Mac Mini, and one extra so I’ll use it to power the Matrix

You should be more than fine with that Dc cable and JS-2.
I can get a great price on WW cables. I am using the WW Platinum HDMI from DSMP to DS DAC. OEM PSA hdmi cable from MAtrix to DS DAC.
Well,get WW Platinum USB then and call it a day. End of that road

Save some money potentially by trying the new Starlight 8 USB 3.0 first.
I’ve been using a Mapleshade Clearlink Plus USB with no complaints whatsoever. I sold a Curious Cable USB (which I now regret) along with various USB decrapifiers in 2018 when I thought I swore off USB for good. The Matrix brought me back.
The rationale for trying the Mapleshade first vs other brands was that the unshielded wire they use was something I didn’t see elsewhere so I thought there may be a better than average chance that they aren’t just repackaging something I could find for much less elsewhere.
If I were to try some other things, I’d like to pick up an Aqvox.
