My Study Of How People Listen To Music

The first thing I thought of by the question posed in the original post, “how do you listen to music”, had nothing to do with the equipment or the platform by which you listen to music, but how do YOU listen to music. Meaning do you sit down and close your eyes, and really listen, or do you usually listen to music playing in the background while doing other things? To me listening to music is mostly an uplifting and deeply spiritual and transcendental experience. Not saying I never listen to background music while doing other things, I do, but the main reason I invested so much time and resources into my rig, is to get lost and absorbed into the vibration the musician, or musicians were trying to express and communicate. This is often a very transformative experience that can shift my mental state of mind, after a day of dealing with the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

Regional differences: A good point. Musical tastes a factor?

It does seems like a younger crowd over here too, just from the times that I have visited the main record store in Tel Aviv (The Third Ear).

Of those that want music, which are astonishingly few, they want to hear it. They do not, however, want to listen to it. Some will spend hundreds on tickets to Taylor Swift or Pink at ear damaging levels, yet wouldn’t spend another twenty bucks for a slightly less crappy Bluetooth speaker.
