Regarding FR5’s,what is the definition of “near field”? Paul, your definition would be appreciated.
Knowing your room size, present speaker positioning and current seating position would be helpful.
Room: 10 x 11 feet (very small)
Speakers 18" from front wall.
I currently sit about 6 feet from the speaker faces with my seat tight against the wall.
IMO you are pretty much near field. You could experiment by pulling the speakers out a bit more and possibly toeing them in. This could give an increased sense of depth and better image focus. As you are seated up against the rear wall experimenting with non-reflective damping on the wall may help as well.
You may want to experiment with the following as your only investment is your time. This can provide for a good starting point.
This is “sound” advice! ![]()
I believe that in the audio speaker domain, near field refers to being close enough to the speakers that reflections are sufficiently dampened so as to be unimportant.
