Leean,
Hello. Just read this stream. Congratulations on joining the Maggie family! Couple of points: 1. When installed, continue to run Maggies FULL RANGE with the Rel. Spend time on Rel website to find out why they strongly recommend this. You lower the Rel internal crossover to integrate with the Maggies. Save your money; Instead of an external x-over, consider a 2nd Rel T7. 2. I had the pleasure of a personal conversation with the John Hunter of Rel. In summary he explained: Rels work particularly well with PS M700 monoblocks and Magneplanar 1.7s (which is what I have in my 15’ x 21’ room). John said the T/7 would be a good fit; Then I reminded him my ceiling is almost 10’. He said therefore I should get T/9 subs. Leean, if your room is smaller and/or your ceiling is lower, according to John Hunter, the T/7 might be perfect for you. 3. John urged me strongly to get 2 Rels because I had separate monoblocs, in addition to the reasons you can hear and read on Rel’s website and from independent reviewers. I was nervous, but I did it as he said. He was right and I was wise to follow his advice. 4. It took 6 mths. of repositioning, but if you follow Rel’s directions (see website for videos and reads) you too can get it just right. 5. Danger!: Rels need to be connected to monobloc D-amps a special way. Look on both Rel and PS websites for instructions. 6. Your D-amps for the Maggies and the built-in A/B amps in the Rels will work out just fine. Once the relative position and back-of-Rel knob adjustments are right, it is a non-issue. 7. Remember that the Rels should cross over below 100Hz. Rel does not show Hz on the crossover knob, so keep listening and keep turning the crossover knob down 1 click at a time from the starting point. It should wind up at approximately the 10 o’clock position. As you turn it down, slowly turn the volume up a click. When finished the volume should be several clicks higher than the crossover knob. 8. Before the Maggies arrive, buy the test disc they recommend to use in adjusting the Rels. I found it on Amazon. (Why they do not include the disc I cannot explain.) 9. Magneplanar discontinued bi-wiring terminals on their speakers in this price range because (they say) listening tests found it sounded very slightly better on the lower models. Good luck!
