Mea Culp if there is a thread for this topic somewhere in the ether. I’m looking to go separates from my Mac MA352 Hybrid Integrated. Now that the BHK pre is on the outs I’m curious how long it’ll be before the next version of Flagship Pre will be released; Paul M. dare you share?
They are being very tight lipped about this.
At some point enthusiasm will certainly get the upper hand!
Looking forward to that YT shortly!
Is Pauls YouTube video today a hint about the new coming PSAudio preamp or is this something to throw us off track? It is April fools day after all.
He mentioned it before. No details. I figured this was his way of saying no more tubes. But he did not say that. Just that he has heard both sound wonderful.
Agreed. Paul is saying what many who have tried “the best” of solid state and tubes….they are both good, if they are well executed, in the appropriate setting, to achieve the desired goal.
As for a new PSA solid state preamp to be introduced at Axpona, I would not walk away from that bet,
and this is not a Fools Day wager.
@ErVikingo Paul mentions using Manley tube products in the studio because of their wonderful sound.
Eve Anna Manley makes the best microphone preamplifiers I have ever heard, bar none. We use them exclusively on all Octave Recordings.
Excellent choice.
I saw that, thanks for the heads up.
@Paul I have read a lot about their microphones. I use Manley Snapper power amps on the mid/high towers of my IRS Beta.
@adifferentpaul stopped by when he was in the area and we listened to some music together!
I think this is a good thread to elaborate on the tech behind PMG Preamp that was announced.
@Paul
Congrats on the new line bearing your name. I noticed that unlike the BHK, the PMG preamp does not include a headphone amp. Is there a separate headphone amp in the works?
I own a pair of FR20’s which I love but sometimes I like to listen with headphones as well.
If you can find one the PS Audio GCHA is an excellent headphone amp–the Gain Cell really helps it and it has gobs of power. I also really like the TEAC HA-501 amplifier–the five position adjustable damping factor feature is quite handy for tailoring the sound to a particular headphone.
Thanks Ionson, those are good suggestions. I will probably stick with the BHK for now unless PS Audio comes up with a very aggressive trade-in offer. I am thinking that if I need to get a dedicated headphone amp, I would look for one with balance headphone inputs like the newer TEAC model, perhaps.
