New high end PS DAC in the works

lots of Bose

I have a couple of slide rules and still remember how to use it. Magical beasts in their day.

Eight extra MB memory! My Kaypro has a whopping 64K.

Oh I bet there’s more than few 100k plus systems in that list. Think about all the houses on all the continents that get finished to a T with a massive budget - they have expensive sounds systems. Doesn’t mean they sound good, of course.

I agree, few of them are likely to be audiophiles.

I’d guess lots of in-ceiling and in-wall speakers that magically can’t be seen.

In my experience, many audiophile’s systems do not sound very good.

The Universal ā€˜Sounds Good’? (rhetorical)

Fortunately, most of us only have to please ourselves.

Exactly.

There is no reason to expect a wealthy person’s sound system to sound any worse than anyone else’s. Some will be great; other, mediocre.

My point was lost…there simply are more people in the world than ever before for which 20K USD is nearly a meaningless amount.

But that is not your target audience. As has been stated, most of these folks are not audiophiles. I submit for most folks spending $20K on a DAC it represents a meaningful share of their discretionary spending budget.

It is a great deal easier to understand when stated directly.

Well, this one is, and shelling out $20k for a DAC is the least of his concerns

Click on the ā€œThe Ultimate Listening Roomā€ photo on this landing page:

I saw the full episode when it aired, and this short clip leaves out a lot of the detail - like the carbon fiber floor panels ($12k each, if I remember right) to isolate the floor.

You know what there’s also more of? People, like me, that can afford a $6,000 DAC and view it as a bargain. I view that as a miracle of capitalism. Just a kid from Cicero.

We are astoundingly fortunate and often forget this.

Yes, but then I deprive you the opportunity to form your own opinion of what it means to have so many billionaires; and just think of the number of millionaires.

How do we know most are not audiophiles? Do they post and say so? How do you know I’m not one of them?

Admitted thread drift…

Well, one of those billionaires is $12 billion poorer today than he was yesterday. That’s a lot more going financially backwards than I was in going from yesterday to today!

Huh? You really are going in circles.

If you want to discuss billionaires and millionaires it is time to start your own thread.

Mark Zuckerberg, aka, Facebook. Their stock tanked badly today …

A one day $119B loss in value is conceptually fascinating.

Okay I am going to give away my age. Not sure why. In the 60’s which were my college years I used to like to shave. With a straight edge razor. Now Straight or DE razor shaving is like a Renaissance thing with Hippies(?) in their 30’s. It is a total pain as you elude to. Luckily my Wife Likes my beard too She liked it 50 years ago but then it was dark brown and much closer cut. Now she says it makes me ā€œwell seasonedā€ lol. Other relatives say it makes me look like a bum.

Funny thing though. My beard and hair are 100% white. At Xmas Without fail some kid is always positive I am Santa haha.

I specialize in high level languages. Probably no clue how to program Sharc, Asic, FPGA etc. Nothing with low level. Sorry I did not know though.
