Thanks, Paul. Great news.
Removable threaded studs for aftermarket feet is a great idea.
Thread size is potentially a challenge. E.g., Black Diamond Racing cones are threaded 1/4"-20. Others are different SAE, or are metric.
(I would love for the States to go metric. It would be nice to be able to rely on a single set of tools. I even have a car where one needs both: SAE for the engine; metric, body.)
Paul, please put a graphic design person on the touchscreen elements. I must say that the MSB volume display choice of font, though simplistic, is much more readable across the room than my DSās tall/fat font. Any design language for your new chassis can be extended to all aspects of your new products.
Paul, any chance of the of the new TSS dac technology cascading over the falls into possibly a newly designed⦠āDS dac 2ā⦠to those of us who have a real world limited budget?
Interesting question.
I can imagine a newer FPGA and programming in a DSD II, but state of the art Jensen transformers, increased power supply filtering, separate digital and analog boxes, etc. cost a good amount of money and do not appear to be candidates for trickling down from the statement DAC.
Will do!
Weāre always moving in that direction. So, sure. Someday progress will spill into a new DirectStream. We just donāt have time to even think about it at the moment. But someday, yes.
In my company, we donāt share our engineering priorities list with our sales force until weāre ready (very highly skilled and professional group), because theyāll always jump the gun with customers. We do share with some of our key accounts as we develop together, matching their needs to ours.
Iād love to know what your development priorities list is.
Ted,
Iāve had a DS Senior for 6 months that I am incredibly pleased with. It came with RedCloud so i was already at another level of SQ. I then put ferrites on the DSās power cord and this elevated the sound. TBD if this was due to less household RF noise intrusion to the DAC or less RF noise intrusion from the DAC to my AC line. A month later I moved from USB to TOSLINK and āwowā got much more detail and darker silence - thanks to now zero RF into the DAC from my source. Just recently, I replaced the main fuse with a SR Blue and now sense increased transparency. Why this gets manifest Iād like to know but its certainly audible.
Things are now so good that if there are more firmware update SQ peaks coming - Iām sure I will be dumbfounded when i hear them.
Thanks for all the great work and the fantastic model of an upgrade-able DAC!
Dan
Sounds greatā¦
When will the MSRP be announced?
With PS Audios level of ingenuity and work ethicā¦I can see a much better sounding DS 2 than what we already have in the DS1 through trickle downā¦albeit; not at uber dac levelsā¦but doable levels of increased sound qualities⦠nonetheless.
But what specifically do you believe would trickle down? From what Ted has described as his planned areas of improvement, only a newer FPGA and programming would reasonably trickle down. Everything else is expensive hardware changes.
Please have an all black version.
Well, only Ted can say for sure but I do understand a hardware parts change would be mandatory in a new DS dac and so would a price increase for the dac. Just not a huge increase would be hopeful. Say less than⦠$10,000.00. If anyone could do it I think Ted couldā¦
There are some changes that arenāt too expensive - it isnāt like we havenāt learned anything since the original release
Excellent point!
Hi Ted and Paul, will the upcoming Ted Smith Signature (TSS) DAC have a fuse? If so, it would be great if it is easily accessible.
And +3 for an all-black version.
Thanks!
PS Audio is trying to get all fuses externally accessible in future products: in particular the fuses in the TSS DAC will be externally accessible.
Nice!
