Any idea when construction workers started wearing hard hats?
Not sure. Maybe in the '60’s? By the '70’s when I started they were mandatory but still not highly policed.
I recall wearing one in 1965; did not know history then. Possibly due to Workers comp insurers insisting after many claims.
A quirky group, in many respects.
I didn’t watch the lecture. Way too long for me but brings back a funny memory. I was finishing my masters in systems engineering at the Air Force institute of technology (AFIT) when I applied, and was accepted, to the PhD program. At that point I was gassed. I had put a huge effort into my education, had two small girls, but always ambitious. One of the first classes was vibrations. I thought I was hot stuff and put in a very modest effort. Took the first test and failed miserably. Worst score on a serious engineering exam in years. As luck would have it, that very day, I attended a briefing on a new Air Force program offering incentives to prior enlisted officers (after gulf war I) to separate early with a nice financial stipend. The deal in the military is if you take an offer like a phd program and fail, your career just hit a dead end. Well I ran to take the money and separated from the active Air Force. Ended up with my current job, a stable family life and finished my military career (did love the service) in a Chicago national guard unit. All because I failed a vibrations class.
I’d call that making lemonade out of lemons. Life sure has us making some odd blind turns that end up being ok.
That is freaking insane! You have to have a death wish to do that.
No Doubt! He’s going so fast too, it almost seems sped up. I love the Doppler effect of the crowd noise as he flies by. I can’t imagine the amount of focus it takes to keep your concentration with all the cheering, whistles, etc.
