Now that’s a subwoofer!

I have visited the Peterbuilt factory here in Texas. When I was exploring an employer change. It is cool since custom jobs and painting are handled in the factory. I haven’t watched this video yet but scale of tooling looks similar.

Welcome back!

Thanks!
We make some prototype parts for PACCAR so it’s interesting to see them in use.

And you thought stereo bits were expensive. These things are badass!

The key here is to trust your ears as they are unique when compared to the rest of humanity.

This guy sure does like to hear himself talk … I couldn’t make it all the way through, did he reveal his measurements? I assume he meant measurements of his room.

For those who truly appreciate a world class piece of art, this just blows everything else out of the water.

Yes he shows his room response via ARC or REW and then the difference between a standard room sweep software and the BACCH system.
With the in ear mics used in the BACCH system the response was very different from the room by itself and also very different from person to person wearing the in ear mics.
This data shows that everyone’s ear shape, size, and internal features gets them a different listening experience sitting in the same chair in the same room.
The bottom line is that your ears need to be trusted for your experience to be the best. Anyone else’s reviews / likes / dislikes can only relate to their room and ear geometry so not necessarily good or bad for you or anyone else.
Interesting stuff!

Thanks for sharing that. I never thought about placing the binaural mics outside my ear. I was puzzled by the HF peaks my ear pinnae is creating using the bacch4mac. I was blaming the room. I will create a DSP filter without my hesd then fix the room acoustics I need to. @aangen, @ViperRGD, @Steve08226 you all need to view this video too!

Good video. In my case, I just use my bin/filter when demonstrating BACCH to others. It’s not optimal for them but everyone to-date was able to clearly hear the difference. If there was a way to conveniently store additional bins/filters, I’d make a set for my wife and others. Edgar did explain that you can “save your workspace” and then create three more filters and save those off as yet another workspace. Effectively, this lets you save and retrieve filters in groups of three. Not elegant but it’s a viable workaround.

Absolutely! A lot of mindless debate could be put to rest if there was a broader understanding and appreciation for our biological (ear geometry) and physical (room) differences that help explain why we hear differently and have different preferences.

I suppose the next iteration of this train of thought would be to intercept the signal before it is amplified or converted and then graph it in real time against what is coming out of the speakers and sampled at the listening position with the in ear mics.
Now that would be interesting to see.

With the Bacch dsp it is a Pink Noise Sweep starting low then zipping up high. It is interesting feeling a subsonic rumble in your seat then getting audible as the frequency rises.

I asked Edgar if he would consider adding a joystick control to the system so one could adjust the system based on personal preference. He responded their is always room for a person with fresh ideas in his lab.

Sounds like you are coming out of retirement.

We all know this is true! But the fun factor is what I love about home audio…
