Nooooooo. I sure as h*ll wouldn’t even try to check every CD I’ve ripped. I don’t even have a lot of the CDs anymore because when I rip a CD, I end up with four copies - one in my media PC, one in my Pi’s SSD, and one in each of my two Synology NASs.
I am just thinking of looking through a few lists online of CDs known to have pre-emphasis. The last time I looked, I don’t recall any of mine being on the list - most of them appeared to be releases released in Japan for the Japan market the last I checked, with maybe a couple of Billy Joel ones a possibility.
MOST CDs (at least released in the US) are NOT pre-e’d as far as I know, and I believe many had the flag in the TOC but were actually NOT pre-e’d, so it’s a mixed bag.
What I was not sure about was if devices like the Matrix which DOESN’T set the flag might be incorrectly NOT setting the flag when it should (versus setting the flag when it shouldn’t).
If I can’t find a definite pre-e’d CD in my collection, I’ll try to find a used CD that’s definitively known to be pre-e’d, just to see if the flag gets through the Matrix…one day. The weather is getting warmer now, so the list of honey-do stuff is growing.
I hear you there. I put in retaining walls and walkway/patio in Nov. Here in CT that is way too late to plant seed. So now I have to do top soil, grade/smooth out, and seed. Thinking of adding irrigation as I hate moving sprinklers around like that. We get a few dry months and the grass goes yellow and it would be nice to have green all summer. But then you have to mow…decisions decisions.
There’s a few “grass people” on our street. The type that will scour their grass for weeds to pull or kill. I’m the type that “if it’s green and in the yard, it’s grass.” If it’s not green, well, it’s not grass, but it’s OK too.

A big THANK YOU to @tak1313. I’ve had the Douk U2 Pro for over a year and never used the I2S output until today. My problem was no DSD audio in the right channel (analog inputs to preamp reversed - thank you for that as well). And the premphasis problem with PCM. Cut the track going to pin 15 as you mentioned and had to remove the case from the PCB and let it hang in free space (for now). Using an old USB 5VDC, 2.1A Wall Wart from an old Cellular WiFi Hotspot I had laying around.
Everything works perfectly !!!
No more DSD over PCM for this Guy. Do I hear a difference ? Not sure until I do a head to head comparison.
Future plans:
Build a little high current, volt. reg.'d toroidal power supply in a wooden box and mount the Douk U2Pro inside as one complete system with an IEC cord.

All day I couldn’t get it working. Tried several reboots (PC, DSSr., U2Pro) and then remembered that last night I wiggled the poer connector and DSD worked on both channels & PCM wasn’t distorted. I did cut the track on the HDMI’s pin 15 and checked it again under my USB microscope and it’s good.
Looks like something in the U2Pro’s regulator circuit is wonky. The DC connections are good. I direct soldered two wires under the 5VDC connector direct to a 5VDC/12A…yes 12A switching power supply I used to use on a car amp in my home years ago). same problems. Went back to the USB wall wart and wiggling the DC plug fixed it again.
I’ll keep watch on it today. If it acts up again. may take matters into my own hands and build a better mousetrap (err…regulator) and bypass theirs.
But USB in…Coax & Optical out work great as it always did.
And here we go again. DSD channels are reversed. Already mentioned in the forum threads here. Honestly, the difference between between USB in direct from my Apple MacMini (M1) and connected via the Douk USB —> I2S so subtle I don’t think I’ll keep this arrangement once my Perfect Transport is back from repairs.
Happened again. Re-booting my Apple Macmini seems to do the trick every time I lose the Douk in Roon’s playback devices.
Worked well until I unplugged everything. Only the left channel worked with nothing on the right channel. With or without the “1PCS I2S IIS to HDMI Module Conversion Board Support DSD PCM HIFI Audio DIY”. PCM was loud and distorted as well on the same channel with nothing on the left.
I thought it was a software setting in Roon but it wasn’t. I had to reconnect pin 15 on the Douk’s HDMI connector trace so that DSD would play on both channels. It will not play I2S PCM but coax PCM works fine.
Strange how the DSD & PCM over I2S did work until I had to unplug everything.
If there is a Roon setting that brings back the right channel. Someone let me know please. Channel correction with the blue board also works great.
Also like on the Video HDMI to Audio I2S boards thread from many years ago. Make sure you swap the LRLK & SData wires.
