Suppose it takes 10 min to process an order, so 6 orders for one hour, or 48 orders for 8 hr. Make it 50 orders a day (8hr work day). Suppose two guys work on the orders, (100 orders processed per day). There are 1000 copies, so, takes 10 work days to process all. Suppose order processing started on 11st, then by 24th, all 1000 copies will be shipped. Say, take 1 week to reach me, so, I expect to see my copy in my mailbox by July 1.
It’s not that bad but it’s pretty bad. We have multiple people working like crazy entering the orders. It really took us by surprise and we most certainly were not prepared for the onslaught of orders for the CD.When we launch the next recording we will have it better under control. It’s a real learning experience for us. I think we shipped out 300 copies yesterday and the boys are getting a handle on it. But, wow.
I found a small package from PS Audio on arrival at work this morning - “out of thin air” as it were …
Reading through this forum, several are waiting. So, my post was trying to put a prospective to this “surprise” situation. Just wait, it will come. However, if this first release receives excellent review and we all love it (I believe so). You are in trouble! (Open up the download, if server can handle it, and preorder for CD, might help…)
Yes, we’re working on downloads as these won’t have the same requirements for the order entry process. So far the reaction to the CD have been great. Here’s one I posted from Doug Hanna:
"I’m writing to tell you that I really cannot write how much I’m enjoying Octave Records Inaugural SACD from Don Grusin. I can’t seem to come up with enough good words.
Like a lot of audiophiles, I bought this project because of the promised technical and sonic merits, which it more than lives up to. I don’t have any other acoustic recordings that sound as REAL as this one, certainly not any recent ones.
What I DIDN’T expect was to be as taken as I was by the performance by Don Grusin. The playing is beautiful and emotional and somehow fits the mood we all seem to be in here in 2020. I love solo piano recordings, but it seems so many are intended to not really be listened to.
It’s got my attention front and center…(right where the piano appears to be in my listening room!)
I’m so happy y’all are embarking on this quest with Octave. I buy a lot of vinyl to hear that natural sound that seems to be missing from many modern, re-re-re-re mastered recordings, but you up and achieved the same thing in a new recording. Something I know was recorded with care and fidelity as watchwords. That means a great deal to me. And you didn’t force me to stream it over the internet…I’ve got an actual disc to have and to hold! We physical media lovers are still out here!
Thank you. I really love it. Can’t wait to hear what’s next."
That is a a very large amount of individual shipping prep along with the shipping…
thank you for your effort and update…
Question though how are they being shipped FedEx…UPS or USPS?
Got mine in the mail
I was wondering if that would be the case…thank you aiki14
I’m sure PSA will learn and grow form all this. Gonna see if mine is in my PO box today.
One thing I would suggest in the future though would be shipping and tracking info for material shipments. Even if it takes awhile to ship, knowing the status is very helpful.
USPS. We can’t afford to ship via FedEx.
And we need to support USPS where we can.
Exciting. Looking forward to my copy!
I believe the response is an indication of the trust and confidence people have that PS Audio does and will produce a quality product.
I can confirm that this disk sounds great, from performance, to mastering. It sounds, if I had to choose a word, real. You had talked about Octave on the forum, when I saw the release I immediately ordered it. As I listen now I’m glad I did.
Soooooo this just happened…I just got an email from Travis at PS Audio with a copy of my order date “today”, June 24th, and that my cd will ship in 3-4 weeks. What??
I received an email confirmation of my order from PSA on June 12th saying they received it (I ordered it on the 11th).
I have a feeling PS Audio didn’t figure on Out of Thin Air going platinum! Time to take on some staff in the wrapping and shipping dept!
I guess, but people that ordered the same time I did have received the cd already.
I just got mine maybe 20 minutes ago, and immediately copied the DSD files into mt Roon library. The sound, and performance, are absolutely phenomenal. By far the best sound my system has ever put out. I have never heard such a realistic rendering of a piano. Thank you Paul! Thank you Gus! and THANK you Don!!
I’m currently up to the Gruisin Likes Gershwin track, and the more I listen, then more I understand what a precious gem this recording is.
