Someone needs to create an entry along with the metadata for this album on AllMusic so people have metadata for the album on Roon or via the apps that use online sources to retrieve metadata. I’d do it but I won’t have the disc for quite a while…
Why does the data disc come with 176.4kHz/24 bit PCM (or is 192kHz?) and only DSD64? DSD64 is about the same as 96kHz/24 bit while DSD128 is about 192kHz/24 bit.
Over the audio band DSD64 is better than 24 bits, and it’s frequency response is better than 48k (tho noise is rising.)
@tedsmith - That’s why I said “about the same”. I have never heard anyone argue that we need 32 bit PCM…24 bits is probably enough.
I did get a USPS tracking number but have not received the package yet. Being a small business owner I understand how a sudden rush of unsuspected business can add a huge backlog in a hurry. I don’t mind waiting. Isn’t there a saying about all good things come to those who wait?
DB Poweramp is pretty self explanatory. Basically you have to pick a “from” drive location and a “to” drive location. Before you rip the CD you can fill in any of the data boxes with info to your liking if they don’t self populate. You also have to pick a format to save as. I use FLAC level 5 but there are lots of choices. I would recommend putting the rip in a music folder on your hard drive first if that is an option. I use a USB CD/DVD player when I need to use one.
Yes, thanks Elk.
Speed-racer, it sounds like you’re in the second batch. Sorry for the delay. If you wish to cancel your order just reach out to sales@psaudio.com and we’d be happy to take care of you. We had no idea we’d get slammed like this. 1,000 orders in two days overwhelmed us and our systems. We’re hard at work revamping systems so that when the next release comes—which I can tell you right now is soooo, soooo, good—we will be in a better position to handle. We didn’t do too well on this one. First time for everything.
We’ve shipped nearly 500 discs out so far and you can read the reviews here as well. It is slow and for that I apologize. We got nailed when the orders flooded in far faster than we had any idea of. Our systems are geared towards hardware that come in maybe a few hundred a month. These orders rolled in 1,000 in two days. We’ve got multiple people working hard to enter orders, stuff discs, ship them out. With apologies.
The next release, Clandestine Amigo, will go a lot smoother as we rework our systems.
Thanks, Baldy
Am I ripping the SACD or the data disk? I don’t understand if I will get DSD or PCM when I do the rip?
-John
Receiving too many orders is at least a happy problem.
I am not complaining!
I haven’t seen the discs yet. Someone else here might be able to help in the meantime. If there is a *.DSF, *.DSD or similar set of files on the data disc you can just copy them directly as they are. If you rip the SACD disc(s) I think you will only get the regular CD layer without a device that can copy the SACD layer. Kind of confusing I know. You can’t hurt anything by trying different methods of copying. The SACD layer will play directly from the disc if you have a suitable player.
Paul it is wonderful blessedness to have such a high following and demand
for your PS Audio products…
Truly wish you well
and btw as I view other “high end” audio hobby related forums, their level of
new postings and activity is very very slow…while PS Audio community forum
is very very active…the only other active one I have noticed is the Emotiva Lounge…
is active just nowhere near as active as PS Audio community.
All that to say is that Paul you have a good solid base…
Congratulations!!!
Ordered on 6/12 just got it today, Chris responded the day after I sent an email if it shipped, so good service. Beefy packaging looks good I will listen tonight
Ya know, I have to admit that I’ve been overly annoyed by the delay in getting my cd (and the lack of notification). Maybe it’s a locked up for 4 COVID months thing. I have the utmost respect for Paul and PS Audio and I’m sure this will be a good learning experience. I hope I get my cd soon (not sure why a cd takes 3-4 weeks to ship though…).
Remember Paul: if you offer a product for sale be careful…people just may buy it!
Anyhoo, we’ll all survive.
Thanks for the understanding. I think when you want something and you have expectations and excitement, which is what we all want and love, it’s a disappointment to then have dead air. I get it.
We have all grown accustomed to two day or quicker shipping and thus spoiled.
“If I cannot have it yesterday I do not want it!”
Just imagine that the the CD is like the ketchup in this bottle of Heinz in this commercial from the late '70s. I’m sure that the listen will be worth the wait.
I ordered mine Jun 12th. Mine is stuck in LA USPS still. Hopefully arrives here in Alberta, CAN before my staycation. Crossing fingers. Sounds like it’s a winner for content and quality.
Cheers
One disc has both DSF64 and 192/24 WAV files. You can copy either format, or both, to a computer. The other disc is a hybrid SACD, so you can play that as you would any hybrid disc.
