Yes, absolutely. It’s on our list of tasks. Thanks for the reminder.
Great to hear…
Thank you.
@Paul , one other ask regarding music information: can you please include composer names on the Octave releases? I’m not necessarily talking about metadata (though that would be nice), but just making that information part of the package, like in the song listings or elsewhere in the liner notes. I’m a little surprised those artists recording original material haven’t asked for this to be credited.
Edit: I just got the latest, Jeremy Mohney’s album, and I see it states he composed all the tracks. Thanks!
Dont they come with the data disc? I use that instead of ripping. Maybe not the composer.
I don’t understand the question.
But, yes, they come with a “data disc” of various resolutions, including .dsf.
Regards.
Someone asked for DB tagging for when ripping. I was wondering why do they need to rip? Octave provides the data disc, no ripping needed. thats all
People have lots of reasons for ripping CDs. I keep a library on my iMac for accessing around the house in other locations than my listening room.
yes I get that. But they give you the data disk with the purchase of the SACD. no need to rip. they give you the files all labeled and everything. I love that they do that. Saves so much time.
I suppose that would all depend on whether someone has the means to play those files. I don’t, other than through the PST.
I was under the impression all the PCM files are there too. Never looked at what resolution he included…but there are some.
I just checked, and you’re right - the PCM files are included, so from that standpoint, it’s super easy to just copy the files to wherever you want to store them without having to go through the ripping process. But to the point about missing metadata that was raised earlier in this thread, copying music files (of any format) from the data disc gets you just that - the music files. It’s my understanding that there’s no metadata in those files, at least nothing beyond the name of the file. It takes software to search for and retrieve the other information from databases on the internet, where it’s been put by the record label - another reason some people want to rip, since that’s one of the things that kind of software does. I suppose if someone uses music management software like Roon or one of the others, ripping might not be necessary to find and access that information. But I’m a Roon-denier so I stick with ripping.
Yes that is correct. For other pieces of software to work it needs to be in those online DBs. I forgot the name of the one Roon uses. For now I hope this saves you a step. BTW I think things like Foobar can load tags on those to existing files once off the Data Disk. might need to change from read only first.
Just spent 1/2 ripping Talking heads Brick (both CD and DVD sides)
I need the data, so ripping remains the easiest option for me.
I am listening to V at the moment and I would like to state it is extremely enjoyable. The room sounds magical. Current track “Lowland” has to be played six more times. Yow!
Hi Paul, hi all
Was wondering, is there a list to all of the Octave Records SACD options that are currently available for purchase? Especially for us overseas who still would like some in physical format.
I meant a direct hyperlink
Cheers, saw that but it signs me out for some reason.
Much appreciated Palouse!
