I just received the latest Octave Records release “Audiophile Masters III”, and this maybe the best sounding SACD from PSA. It just sounded incredible realistic playing through PST/Dragon48/DS. Congratulations on another great release from Octave Records.
Does he hum or sing We Belong To The Lollipop Guild while he works?

I’m also intrigued. I purchased a download of one of the Jazz releases before buying any of the SACDs and the download comes with an album title, the songs named (no genre specified), a digital booklet of the release and an artwork JPEG.
Apple Music doesn’t natively deal with WAV files like AIFF or MP3, I’m unable to see any metadata. Since having bought 3 SACDS, I’ve had to photograph and Photoshop my artwork and enter the images, titles etc manually.
No change yet w/r/t gathering metadata automatically when ripping the Octave releases via dBPoweramp. I still have to manually enter information and import cover art/album cover from a file on my hard drive I scour from the internet.
Hopefully, this will be resolved soon.
Cheers.
I always have to enter all the Octave discs’ data manually in Apple Music (née iTunes). I’ve come to expect that. And for some reason I’ve never discovered, my setup never even looks for artwork on the internet, even on typical commercially available discs, so by habit I always toss either the cover or its booklet into the scanner before I do anything. Its software automatically rotates to 90 degrees, so I don’t even have to be careful with it. It’s almost a no-brainer.
As far as I can tell, PSA has simply not put its Octave Records information “out there” with the usual suspects/data bases.
With nearly every other label/record I rip, dBPoweramp and/or JRiver Media Center is able to get 99.95% of the associated data and cover art from the internet and “attach” the information to the file.
This is not a deal breaker, by any means, but I believe it is important that PSA join the rest of crowd in this regard, in the near term.
@jamesh: Is this something you would not mind mentioning to Aaron Marrs?
Regards.
Thanks, folks. I’ll endeavor to find out (unless any of you know) where to place this metadata that these services glean their info from.
Thanks. We are very proud of this one and it has taken an honored place in my reference music collection. Glad you liked it!
Maybe PS Audio should consider a subscription service with Octave Records. I know I buy almost every release, at least so far, so why not just subscribe and get them automatically.
Great minds think alike (and the opposite is likely true ) We are working on exactly that.
I have purchased most of the Octave releases.
This morning I am listening to a newer one for the first time. Bonnie & Taylor Sims “Levelland”. I have to say I think it is one of the best so far. Although it is a style (striped down, singer song-writer, folk, etc.) that I tend to like, it isn’t only the music. To me some of the earlier releases have felt a little too “produced”. A bit like they were trying too hard to be audiophile recordings.
Only one man’s opinion, but congratulations to Bonnie, Taylor and Octave records. It’s a great listen.
@Paul I’d love to hear a follow up from them.
Thanks
In what way?
The recordings I like best tend to sound like people and instruments in a room making music at the same time. Some of the earlier releases seem to try for too much separation and imaging. Sometimes almost like you were inside the instrument (piano on the first release as an example).
To me there is always interaction between the room, the instruments and the voices when something is recorded with the musicians in the same space. That is something that I like. I don’t know how this was recorded, but it has more of that feel.
Also, the voices don’t seem to be as forward in the mix as some of the other releases (Clandestine Amigo, for instance). They seem more like what you’d expect if they were in the same room with you.
Certainly this is just my opinion, but I really like, at least the illusion, that the song was performed by them at the same sitting.
Hope that answers your question.
Yes, this is very helpful.
I thought you meant something totally different by “produced.”
Clandestine Amigo ~ Things Worth Remembering is hands down my favorite so far. The quality of the recording and the content keep bringing me back. Tom LaFond ~ The Moon Leans in my become my top pick, but need a few more listens.
The opening track on Audiophile Masters Volume III by Monica Marie LaBonte is also an attention grabber. I want to hear more from her for sure.
Are there any new recordings due to be released imminently? I’ve just bought a handful of SACDs (I buy them in bunches to minimise postage to the UK) … no doubt the new releases will appear as SOON as my order has despatched
Does anyone have Don Grusin, or Audiophile Recordings vol 1 on SACD in new/immaculate condition that they would be happy to ship to UK? Happy to pay fully insured postage etc. Thanks!
Me too !
I have mine still in the wrapper. I’ll ship it to you. PM me here with your address and I’ll send it to you. Once I pay the postage on my end. Just PayPal me the price of the SACD/DVD Data Discs + shipping. I’ll make sure to get you a proper tracking number.
Cheers,
Joe Goswami
Hey @Paul, any update on getting Octave Records releases out there into the music databases so software like dBpoweramp (and others) can grab the metadata when ripping and archiving the files from the discs?
Thanks in advance,
Scott
