P10 THD OUT QUESTION

Hi guys,

Most of the time my P10 THD OUT is in 0.1%, so it works excellent.I have plugged all the front end to the P10 (Esoteric K-03X SACD player, Esoteric G-02 Master Clock Generator, Pass Labs XP-20 Preamp and OPPO BDP-105D Bluray player), and the pair of monoblock amplifiers (Pass Labs X600, they really “eats” A LOT of power) are plugged directly to the wall outlet.

The last two times that i use my system (2 days ago and today, i’m not leave on my P10 24/7) the THD OUT is very high to me (2.0% 2 days ago and 1.0% today).

In my country is summer now and the medium temperature here is 32° C so millions of air conditioners are working at the same time at this moment.

For my surprise, when i turn OFF the X600’s monoblock’s, i repeat that are plugged directly to te wall outlet (but leaving ON all the front end plugged to the P10), automatically the THD OUT downs to 0.1% (the THD IN was in 2.6% and downs to 1.5% too).

This is a problem or when i use a lot of power in my home, in summer time and with all the people here demanding a lot of power too, this situation of higher THD OUT is normal?

My P10 looks good, healty and i think that is working fine, you have the same oppinion guys?

Mr. Mac Gowan i am really interested in your oppinion too.

Thanks a lot

Best

It could be one of several things. What’s the input THD when this happens? It might also be the phase is so far off that it needs adjusting. Post a picture of the output waveform when this happens.

And, does the input voltage (to the P10) drop when you switch off the Pass Labs?

If the P10 has to boost or cut too much THD suffers, AFAIK.

Hi Mr. McGowan,

The input THD is higher too but when i turn OFF the monoblock’s both THD’s (in and out) drops to normal values.

The PHASE adjust is in 0 now but yesterday i set the PHASE in +6 and nothing happened, the THD out don’t change

This is exactly that i was thinking, in your oppinion and based in my comments you believe that my P10 is working fine?

Thank a lot

It is possible yes. BUT have you checked that, indeed the input power to the P10 drop when you switch on the amps?

One thing you can try is to set your output voltage lower, e.g. 215 V instead of 230V (in a 230V country) etc.
