Part 2 of the DirectStream DAC, Ted's Talk, is now published

Upsampling PCM and converting to DSD? Yes ;)

But instead of buying a used dCS I patiently waited... and still waiting... for a response from PSA sales about how I can finally pre-order the darned upgrade kit :D

You know... despite the software bugs PSA is very addictive...

@alekz Alekz just email me personally and I’ll make sure you’re handled on Monday.

Wonderful, fun presentation.

As a classical music nerd, I like the reference to Durufle’s Ubi Caritas.

I also left a message earlier today to PS Audio for the trade-up program.

The’re pretty swamped but when I spoke to Mayoura yesterday, she felt she was catching up now.

As for audioholics, I am a card carrying member and have been for about 43 years now, since I was a teenager. I can thank my dear cousin for that one.

I’ve tried meetings, pills, (more pills), psychotherapy and every other possible way to avoid the “habit”. It sneeks back in every time.

As long as there are credit cards, we’re sunk. Good old fashioned “magic plastic” helps heal the itch nicely, albeit expensively. Well, heck, if the country can go into psycho-debt why can’t we help the economy along any way we can.

Ah - there it is, the rationale for jumping into the deep end of the pool again - helping the economy.

Just doin’ my bit to help out.

Odd

Always knew you were a patriot, Odd.

Don’t forget to fix the overall economy too, before the Chinese turn off the electricity.

And use all the fossil fuels you can.

If the dinosaurs were kind enough to die to supply as with energy, it would be disrespectful not to honor their memory.

We’ll all just have to find something to do while we wait with baited breath for our DirectStreams. I have projects in my shop that I can dive into to help take my mind off of the anticipation. I wonder what others will do. I should not have called Vladimir Putin after I talked with Gordon in Feb. This is all my fault, I’m afraid…

So it was you who started that fun in Ukraine?

I hope nothing happens to the Crimea River. It’s a great song.

Oh aaaaargh! L-) 8-|

:))

Ouch, good one.

Single rate DSD is supported via DoP on all inputs. Raw single or double rate DSD is also supported over the I2S inputs.

@tedsmith

Yikes.

So better get the boys working on the Bridge2 with I2s output!

Was that by “design”, economics or “yet to be invented”?

I’m sorry, my answer was ambiguous. I should have added that USB and the bridge are also I2S inputs as far as the DirectStream digital card is concerned. At this very moment tho the bridge and USB do pass single rate DoP thru, they don’t pass double rate DSD thru, but that’s not a hardware problem.

Ted, is this still the PS Audio specs for the I2s HDMI input on the DS (courtesy of Sonore)?

Edit:

Attachment removed due to ongoing revising.

In general yes, the only thing that changed is that the DS doesn’t use the MCLK related signals.

I think saying “x” and “x gnd” is misleading. They are differential pairs and they should be “x+” and "x-"

Pins 2, 5, 8, 11 are shields and aren’t “not used”, but leaving them unconnected at one end could help.

Fine.

I hope Jesus can update his spreadsheet by incorporating the DS.

Now we better can understand what electrical properties that are required on the source end for compatibility with the DS via its I2s proprietary HDMI, given that appropriate DSD protocols are used.
