PMG Signature Pre has arrived and it sounds amazing

I just picked up the PMG Pre today and initial sound is amazing right out of the box. I’m running an MSB Cascade DAC, Sonorus R2R tape deck, and a Dr Feikert Trio TT/CH Precision P1 Phonostage all connected into the PMG Pre. The PMG Pre is connected to the BHK600s.

The touch screen is incredibly intuitive. The wife approves of the aesthetics and the volume control. The blue screen blends very well with other components.

I’m going to run the PMG Pre nonstop for about 4 days to allow everything to settle before reporting in more detail on the sound. But first few songs are wonderful thru the PMG Pre.

What if any pre are you comparing it to?

Yes, very interested to know the comparison

Congratulations.

Where did you purchase it? (Was not sure PSA was shipping orders yet…)

Cheers.

I’ve most recently owned the BHK Pre, Stellar Gold Pre, and both the MSB Reference and MSB Cascade I’ve owned with built in pre amps. The MSB Reference DAC performance was held back by the BHK Pre but shined with the Stellar Gold. I preferred the Stellar Gold over the BHK Pre.

But my comment about initial impressions are just that without consciously comparing to prior components.

Whether I keep the PMG Pre with my main system or transition to another listening system promoting the Cascade pre capabilities into the lead pre role to be determined over the coming weeks. With the BHK600s in my main system, I wanted to experiment with the synergistic possibilities combined with the new PMG Pre.

I pre ordered and believe they started shipping this month as announced at Axpona.

Excellent news…

I preordered right after axpona and was told I was first in line. I paid the 25th and was again told first in line. Mine has not yet shipped. I expect that calling would result in another questionable time frame which I can do without.

On a brighter note the pmg seems to do well with the BHK 600’s which I also have. That is good to hear. Thanks for posting your observations; I hope I can add some soon.

Excellent news. Thanks for posting. They just shipped out so I am delighted you got yours so quickly. The PMGs are sooooo much better than PerfectWave that, as you’ve observed, it doesn’t take a lot of time to figure out jjust how much better. Can’t wait for break in the happen. Please keep us in the loop.

No. Just the Reference with Stellar was what I mentioned above. I should have though as the Stellar was pretty darn good. I am experimenting with the Cascade running thru the PMG Pre to see which I prefer. Enjoying the ride so far.

I’m happy that this works out for you and you are enjoying the PMG! I just find the pairing very odd. I went to my local MSB dealer for the Cascade reveal and several other forum members were also in attendance for this event. The system was a Cascade with M200 MSB mono amplifiers connected to a pair of entry level to mid-level Raidho speakers. The demonstration was a complete let down and to say less than impressive would be an understatement.

I can’t blame any of that on the MSB Cascade. With no disrespect to PS Audio but why would one choose to use a $95k Dac with this set up? I can’t imagine the MSB dealer saying this is what we recommend. But hey I’m taking away from the PMG thread. I was impressed at Axpona with PMG and @Paul personal tour of the PMG products he gave fellow forum members including myself! Consider me confused. Lol

This is like John Williams showing up to lead the local Jr. High School band. I’m sure the Star Wars theme would sound great but conducting it with the Berlin Philharmonic may be slightly better. :man_shrugging:t2:
