PMG Signature Pre has arrived and it sounds amazing

Only need one fuse. The two fuse holders are for the different voltages used in different countries. I believe the lower one is for 120v countries.

anyone know when the PMG DAC will ship?

I also am using a MK2 but with Aurender n200. Hopefully Pmg 512 dac’s internal streamer will sound better so I can sell n200 and will make up for the big hit with trade in. We will see.

sorry, but did I understand correct? you use Rose streamer/dac with MSB Cascade as a streamer?

The Rose 150b is one of two methods available to play streamed music thru the Roon server on the Cascade dac as I have it configured. My preferred method is using the MSB Renderer V2 module which connects thru an Ethernet cable to the Cascade. The Renderer is wired to the Roon Server with an LHY SW6 Ethernet switch and a Muon Pro Ethernet filter into the MSB dac.

Flowing thru the PMG Pre, I’ve never heard better digital playback. It’s absolutely stunning. My prior reference was a full CH Precision 10 series system with Stenheim Ultime Two speakers.

Oh. Good to know. I just assumed they were both needed. Thanks.

Holy smokes! You prefer the PMG to CH Precision gear? That is saying something!

it seems August

in the meantime

Considering the price, if it truly sounds better than Aurender N200 I would be so delighted and instantly buy one.

is is said…that the streamer in the PMG512 is better than the AirLens

How can this be stated as fact? Listening to the 512 streamer is presumably overshadowed by its DAC, and their relative contribution cannot be defined. I would expect on 512 DAC benefits are where the SQ derives, not the streamer.

We shall see how folks distinguish the relative merits to overall SQ of the PMG512. Someone may figure out how to disconnect the streamer and listen to the isolated DAC.

I heard one reviewer state when airlens was paired with the strata gold dac it was very close to the n20 which alone is $12.5k. According to Paul the internal streamer in the new dac sounds better than airlens. I will have to compare for myself and weather to keep my MK2 and n200 or PMG.

I would think if you use your external streamer via coax, usb or preferred method that would cut out the internal streamer in the dac.

I use Innuous to stream (and play downloaded music) => don’t actually want my DAC to intervene… wonder if that’ll be an issue when the PMG DAC finally arrives…

If that is true then it is extraordinary! I guess the I2S connection must have played a leveling role in it since I assume you pay super expensive streamers mostly for superior USB clocking.

Actually true but PSA told me NOT to buy an external clock if using the PMG DAC since their clock is so good. Was considering it.

The only thing I’m concerned about is 18 months from now and it’s obsolete because they come out with a 512 MK2 with better internal streamer with say a 128 tap sequencer.

Automobile manufacturers introduce new models all the time at $50k-$70k+ - it happens. The last thing on my mind when considering buying an expensive item is the worry if there is an unannounced new model coming out in a couple years. Wonder why the same doesn’t apply to HiFi?

that may very well be a concern with every digital product …

like phones, computers, etc.

It’s actually pretty easy. Simply listen to the built in streamer in the PMG 512 and then switch to the AirLens connected to the 512’s I2S inputs and compare. It’s that easy and that quick to decide. Took me about 2 minutes of listening.
