You’d be surprised what a processor can do… rock solid center image, all the things people talk about here in their systems, they are available in car audio.

There is a huge amount of manual EQ tuning… auto EQ does not work. Because each EQ change introduces phase shift due to IIR EQ bands, only the listener can adjust so it sounds correct. This needs to be a passion, casual car audio is not good.

I have heard carefully set up car systems, some decent systems in high-end cars, as well as those dreadful systems used in high dB contests. All are no more compelling then an offer to sell me a leaking used bass boat.

Perhaps it is related to my complete disinterest in golf.

To return to the original topic, I wonder how the age profile would have looked had the survey been posed on one of the headphone forums. My guess would be that the average age would drop significantly.

I don’t think you’ve heard a true audiophile’s car.

It can be done.

I’d love to see data on the music preferences and how they are changing?

Sorry, I have heard “a true audiophile’s car,” several in fact. Car audio leaves me beyond cold.

I strongly disagree that car audio is in any way compelling. This does not invalidate your opinion.

I also suspect headphone enthusiasts are a younger lot.

My kids love music as they grew up listening to it. But they are not audiophiles, they are music lovers. To me these are 2 completely different things.

When my daughter comes home from college we often listen together. She is the one who re-lit my LP craze. I often share LPs with her. My son (HS Senior) is all about Spotify. Funny thing is he loves music I grew up on. I often download his Spotify list to listen to while flying for work.

They both just love music. If I start talking to them about audiophile stuff they just get up and leave.

Right! No long lines, no gerrymandering, no voter suppression here! No excuse not to vote!

I am no longer alone !

I feel about 25 and act far younger, does that count?! (I’m 52). I think we share a fair number of genres that few others on this forum enjoy.

I hope willingness to listen to music genres is not a function of age.

For me it certainly was. I was an “old fuddy-duddy” when I was younger. My musical horizons have certainly expanded along with my belly.

Of course not but exposure during different stages of life cements musical memories and associates experiences. For me, it’s one of the primary reasons I listen to much of the music I do.

I suspect those that did not grow up through the 80s American punk scene don’t have the same memories and association.

So while one may be willing to try it out, it simply cannot take you back to Club Minimal in Sacramento in 1985 in the way it does me.

Similarly I don’t share an association with most jazz or classical - though I very much enjoy listening to classical (more than jazz) I have no reference or association from my past.

I’m enjoying this as I type:

Classical is ok for me but what I really dig is electronic / classical hybrid.

Prequell is an exceptional artist that is fusing the genres.

In the words of Bob Dylan, “I was so much older then; I’m younger than that now.”
