Popping noise on BHK Preamp to/from HT Mode

It will. I don’t know what goes on with the input tubes on the amp. I have a BHK250 that does the same thing when the tubes age. I learned the hard way in that I shipped the preamp back for service which did not resolve the issue. Than though I had tried other tubes I had which did not resolve it either and I than shipped the amp back and all the did was replace the tubes. If it happens again I will simply replace the input tubes on the power amp.

Well this is getting annoying… the brand new tubes are all broken in and the popping noise is gone when I hit the mute button. But now I have popping noises whenever I raise or lower the volume on the left speaker now.

I’ll report back after some tube rotation tests.

The noises when changing volume is usually caused by the tube in the BHK preamp. If you swap the preamp tubes the noise will move to the other channel. Any imbalance in the triodes in the tube can cause this as the volume control actually is adjusting the gain of the tube.
